Now I’m no EE but that looks like a bridge rectifier done popped off the board and took a one-way ticket to I have no idea wheresvilletownberg. There wasn’t anything rattling inside. So far no response yet from VL on whether or not it is supposed to be like this. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

she basically took advantage of her own people who were desperate for work after all the factories left eastern tennessee in the 70s and 80s by turning her hometown into a giant theme park and crowding out any attempt at offering non-part time minimum wage service sector employment. on top of that offering back to them a disneyfied version of their own culture on par with the country bear jamboree. plus her children's book club is a scam that takes money away from real public literacy programs. and that's not even getting into how the real estate market for summer mountain homes there has essentially priced all those people out of ever owning a home off their dollywood paycheck

but she and her marketing team have done an amazing job painting her as this amazing working class feminist and erstwhile gay icon

The entire industry of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge have centered around tourism since the 1930's after the Great Smokey Mountains became national park and their logging industry collapsed. This also cause property values and land prices to skyrocket almost overnight, to the point where it pushed out a lot of locals. It accelerated in the 60's when Pigeon Forge opened up a number of theme parks and tourist attractions. You don't have to like Dolly (I don't like her business practices either), but I think it's a little disingenuous to lay this all at her feet instead of Tennessee's terrible conservative governments that thinks paying living wages will cause them to burst into flames like a vampire in the sun.

of course i don't think it's all her fault, just that she took advantage of a lovely situation

but there were factory jobs in the area as well, it wasn't purely just a tourist trap like it is now. same with asheville and the towns on the other side of the mountains

I don't think we disagree as I don't like her business practices either, I guess my point was more pedantic than anything. As much as I hate the effects it can have on people and their communities, I have a hard time blaming small towns that would have otherwise faced a slow decline into even worse poverty to decide to lean into their only profitable industry.

The factory jobs in the area were Newport, Dandridge, and Morristown and they went overseas in the mid 1990s to early 2000s.

Yeah, that too. It kinda irks me when people refer to Eastern Tennessee but neglect to mention that it comprises around a third of the state, so most people who had factory jobs commuted to those hubs anyway.

But to get back on topic, looking at a bunch of '60's Italian guitar design is both stupid music poo poo and oddly beautiful at the same time. Particularly this Wandre Oval:

Pickguard mounted bridge is certainly a choice.

I think the pickguard is actually part of the neck, which is aluminium.

It looks like it, but in all the photos I've seen the pickguard is attached by a single screw near the neck and the bridge posts.

The necks are something else, though. Aluminum rod covered by plastic.

I'm curious what that must have felt like to play.

On closer inspection, you're right, though it does look like those models have neck thru aluminium, with the pick guard screwed to that. Also, the electronics are on the back of the pick guard!

I ended up trawling through FetishGuitar, which was fun.
