If you’re getting hardcore doomer brain and don’t personally live in an area that’s in the path of a fire maybe taking a short break from social media might improve things. Being informed is one thing, but blasting your brain with the firehouse of negativity that is Twitter, forums, etc. is another.

I've been packed and ready to go all day, just thinking ahead on what I'm gonna say to preach socialism at the shelter if the opportunity presents This experience doesn't depress me, because regular people have been coming out and helping each other whenever they're able to. It makes me mad, because the systems we use are being held as shackles instead of the links that bind us together. I also know that if I'm homeless in a week, I'll not be alone, which is strangely comforting.

Honestly can’t hurt. Stay safe.

The depressing thing is that after living through the Camp Fire in 2018, I awoke this morning to smoky orange skies, a Sauron sun, and lightly falling ash and my first thought leaving the house was "Oh good, the air isn't so awful that I need an N95 to take out the trash". I can already feel myself normalizing this.

What I liked most from camp fire was almost running into the fire crossing over the 99 freeway part after leaving chico, which made us have to do an u-turn and go to i-5.

Any studies / reports / historical examples / etc. of wildfires such as these jumping from the forest into suburbia? IE, are the densely populated suburban areas near the Bay (Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, etc.) in any fire danger? Or is there no expectation that the fire would skip out of the forest and into areas like those?

When Santa Rosa lit up it was also an extremely high wind night. The mountain zone was probably always going to burn but jumping the 101 into suburbs was the shock. It also moved extremely fast, preventing any chance of containment.
