We're Gonna Run.

We're Gonna Crawl.

Kick Down Every Wall.
Reminder that in 2014, Cuomo was paid 750k to write a memoir from a publisher that was clearly rolling the dice on him starting a presidential campaign. Rather than promote the release of said book, however, Cuomo simply had his campaign buy like... 2500 copies to give out to donors or whatever, from a print run of 200k copies, and otherwise he refused to tour or do media to promote it because he was campaigning for re-election.

To date, the book has still sold fewer than 5000 copies total.

So ~195,000 copies of his terrible memoir have been shredded, most of the copies were bought by his campaign, and most of the rest probably by journalists covering Cuomo.

As a result, he has earned somewhere around 200 dollars per copy of his book that was sold.

So what's the deal with getting a mail-in ballot in New York? Do we still have to just lie and apply for an absentee ballot if we don't want to go to the polls or is there any movement by the powers that be to push something through to make it easier?

state senate passed a bill to let the general election work like the primary where anybody and everybody can vote by mail, but its been sitting on cuomo's desk since August 10th without being signed https://www.nysenate.gov//legislation/bills/2019/S8015 so whenever this is finalized you should be able to request a mail-in ballot online pretty painlessly, like the primaries.

Just kidding! It's to

In the primary i requested my ballot in the beginning of May and didn't get it until the day after the election. I'm not going to bother this time. My early voting place is a bit of a walk, but it was pretty empty last time and a walk will be good for me. Just sigh at the BOE.

I actually looked into this a bunch during the primary because the absentee list you get from the BOE didn't include anyone we could find who used that site. When we made requests around the beginning of May (the site went up some time in April), the only absentee requests were from traditional methods. We didn't see any website absentees show up until early June, at which point the number of requests in the lists jumped from 4,000 (at the end of May, we requested new lists every week and a half or so) to 23,000. A week later is was 40,000 and growing.

The site itself is just some third-party consultant who collected all the entries and sent them to the BOE in big dumps in late May. The BOE run the site, it was registered by some GoDaddy service that's different than the vote.nyc domain. The site's stylesheet was also badly copied and didn't have the same headers, and it's privacy policy is a template from privacypolicytemplate.net.

Since we couldn't find the names of people who used it, and the site looked sketchy as hell, we got really worried. When we called the BOE, most front-line staffers didn't even know the site existed, or that there was an absentee-related EO from Cuomo. Tried to get some reporters interested, but they didn't think it was worth a story. Cut to mid-June when it came out that tons of people weren't going to get ballots in time.

And by doling out 9000+ permanent job losses, I'm sure the actual impact on delays and maintenance issues will be way worse than any public-facing forecast would probably admit. This is going to be loving devastating.

If they are really going to decrease train/bus frequency it's not going to help the covid situation anyways because things will get crowded AF really fast.

Exactly. Before covid trains would already get full during rush hour coming at 3-5 minute intervals. Even if you doubled the wait times the system would become unusable, to say nothing of dangerous crowding. 12+ minute wait times is unfathomable.

reduced train service means I basically never use the MTA again. I loving hate the subway, but I'd hate even more not being able to use it because trains are planned at 10 minute intervals (which we all know would turn into 10 mins, 25 mins, :rip:)

yyyyyeah this is weird. I know the guy who ran his primary campaign, and that guy would say something like this... ironically / onlineishly, but understand the historical comparisons and not allow this specific set of hyperbolic words near the congressman's screen time.

Max is a strange guy. good at being handled, comes off as pretty genuine otherwise, but leaning into this seems unusual

I was hiding out most of this time near New Paltz and it was pretty good overall. It’s been open for indoor dining for a while but I only went out for one dinner- the tables were spread far apart, and even the few bar stools were well spaced. You needed to wear a mask until you got to your table but obviously not while you’re sitting to eat. In general I’d say people were just as good as in the city but it’s also easier because there’s plenty of restaurants with large outdoor spaces and those were great, I didn’t even want to eat 6’ away from anyone.
