Regarding the rule, it is in place as such so the players if hurt someone when they have a temper tantrum it doesn’t matter that it was accidental, their recklessness gets punished. Back in 2017 Denis Shapovalov hit a ball in anger and it drilled the chair ump in the eye, which needed surgery. Hitting the ball, throwing a racket, etc. shouldn’t be happening. I’d expect someone to be ejected if a player got angry and threw a baseball into the stands.

While in Australian Rules Football it's considered only mildly amusing for a player to climb into the stands and start fighting the crowd. (but then again, that was Collingwood)
