Currently sat in a gathering with people from 10 different households. This is fine because it's in an office (COVID cannot spread in offices) and because I may perform the act of ultimate social utility: buying lunch in Pret. They should introduce some kind of formal waiver system where you can do whatever the gently caress you want provided you sign a contractual commitment get your lunch from Pret.

Just saw a quote from Matt Hancock on the guardian liveblog claiming that the shortage of tests is due to people who aren't eligible getting tested. Is there a single systemic or government fuckup that these people will not blame on individualsquote:The reason we have constraint at the moment is not because capacity has gone down; far from it, capacity has gone up. It’s that we’ve suddenly seen this rise in demand from people who are not eligible. For instance, I’ve read stories of whole schools being told to go and get a test. That is not what the testing is there for. We need it for people who are symptomatic. Oh well, if you've read stories, that must be it. Can't argue with stories

Lady VG just got her pip assessment back from the DWP (she was on highest due to her needing zomorph (morphine) twice a day to function) and not only are they ending it, but apparently she needs to pay them back because she was given too much. Appeal it right the gently caress now. You need to put in a mandatory reconsideration straight away. You have 4 weeks from receiving the notification to do this. Fair warning though the mandatory reconsideration will almost certainly fail but that's ok. Because after the Mandatory reconsideration fails you can then appeal it to the lower-tribunal which usually succeeds if it gets that far. For that though you want professional help either from your local council/Citizens Advice or depending on your wife's condition and circumstances a specialist charity. E: A broad appeal to anyone struggling with PIP claims if you're having trouble with yours and need advice hit me up either here or on discord and I'll be happy to talk you through what I know. Yet another bank is telling me I will have to put an app on my smartphone to access online banking soon. To this day, I just cannot see how an app on an easily stolen smartphone and (for most people) with verification codes being texted to the same device is more secure than a laptop. I would have thought it would be desperately insecure. Personally, I have a non-internet 'dumb phone' as my main phone and my smartphone is a different device so my verification codes will be going to a different device. But I know that's not how most people operate. Can someone enlighten me as to what point I am missing? While we're on the subject of PIP appeals, I had my tribunal last week and here's an example of the level of fuckery that can occur. I was refused PIP in August last year after a face to face assessment. In October, the DWP placed me in the "limited capacity for work and work related activities" group for universal credit, without an assessment and based purely on the form I filled in. A lot of the criteria for this are shared with PIP. At the tribunal (which I've waited 11 months for), the judge rightly pointed out that these two decisions seem contradictory. "Yay" I thought to myself, "the DWP have shot themselves in the foot". The result? Hearing adjourned for an unspecified amount of time (during which I do not receive the PIP money I should be getting) so that the DWP have chance to submit more evidence, despite them not caring to do so for the best part of a year. The game is entirely rigged.
