I'm starting to form a theory that Tom Cruise is some kind of suicidal exhibitionist, and all his stunts are just failed attempts to kill himself in a way that's guaranteed to be filmed and seen the world over. And then somehow he fails miserably every single time.

Let the professional do it” and Cruise/Keanu training for months to prepare and do the necessary work for their own stunts. Anyone who falls in that gap is an rear end in a top hat.

Well, I do think he does a great job at the ending. That's probably his best acting in the entire movie. OHMSS is a somewhat odd entry in the 'Bond canon' but it's a pretty good movie; better than You Only Live Twice and Diamonds.

I remember reading that the reason Lazenby only got one movie wasn't because he was poorly-received, but because he spent the entire filming living as hard as Bond does and got burnt out after the one movie. I can respect a man who couldn't handle playing Bond because he was too good at living Bond.

One of the DVD extras on Collateral went through his whole training program and it was above and beyond, he had SAS guys teaching him everything, down to how to blend in. He had to work a day as a FedEx driver without being recognized and ended up sitting and eating lunch with someone and they had no idea. He’s a completely bonkers mess of a human but holy poo poo he works hard for his acting.

Cruise vs Reeves would allow for some absolutely insane fights, too. No need to cut to hide stuntmen and they’re both insanely good at what they do.

Lazenby's not a perfect Bond, but the movie works and it's nice to see them actually breaking with what would become the Bond movie "formula".

I'm watching an old episode of Cheers and noticed an awesome little detail. Diane comes behind the bar and orders a Harvey Wallbanger and a conversation gets started between the staff and regulars as Sam makes the drink. Now a Harvey Wallbanger is a somewhat obscure drink and is made with vodka and OJ with a floater of Galliano a liqueur better known as the big loving yellow bottle that doesn't fit on the shelf. The conversation continues and Sam finishes the drink and puts it on the service rail. The banter continues but Sam looks distracted and keeps staring at the drink. Sam keeps joking around with the others, takes the drink off the service well and starts rummaging through the rail under the bar. The others keep joking around and Sam finally finds what he's looking for a bottle of Galliano on the back bar and finishes the drink correctly and puts it back on the service well. It all happens without comment and is only something a seasoned bartender would notice.

It might be obscure now, but I can assure you it was one of the most popular cocktails of the 80’s (not to take away from the attention to detail).

That said I've made maybe one in the last 20 years.

Phy posted:Danny Trejo is on record as insisting that stunt people do his stunts, and the reason he gives is that if the star gets hurt it can delay the shoot while they heal, which can cost the film crew their livelihood for the sake of saying "the actor does their own stunts", and I also respect that Bill Mumy said almost the same thing but in reverse: he said that an actor should never do his own stunts, because he's taking a paycheque away from a stuntman.
