La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo

I can't see Labour becoming a socialist government this decade, or the next. Probably better to start a new party and use that to pressure Labour to go more left, an inversion of UKIP. An unstoppable trump card of people saying what they want rather than just guessing what the worst person they know is likely to vote for.

I just don't get the "close an hour early" mentality, especially when the majority of workers there are on hourly pay.

Allison Pearson appears to be impressively poo poo

quote:

Pearson was listed in Spiked in 2007[13] as one of many journalists who had been duped by the anti-MMR campaign. This anti-MMR campaign has contributed to the significant rise in measles cases and complications including death that arise from the disease[14] in the UK and elsewhere.

In May 2007, when Madeleine McCann went missing, Pearson said "This kind of thing doesn't usually happen to people like us."[15]

In May 2008, Pearson upset Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, by suggesting her daughter Princess Beatrice was overweight. On the TV programme, This Morning, the Duchess criticised the absent columnist. Pearson denied claims that she had failed to respond to multiple phone calls from the Duchess.[16]

Pearson was criticised for a tweet sent less than an hour after the first of the 22 March 2016 Belgian bombings. In the tweet, she linked the bombings with the pro-Leave side of Brexit — the side that she herself supported on the matter.[17][18][19]

Following the May 2017 Manchester Arena bombing at the end of a concert, Pearson called for the introduction of internment.[20]

In September 2019, Pearson falsely accused a man with a seriously ill child of wearing a microphone when confronting prime minister Boris Johnson, due to the man's allegiance for the Labour Party. Despite being presented with evidence that this was untrue, Pearson did not issue an apology and defended her accusation.[21]

In September 2019 Pearson suggested that Angela Rayner was unsuitable to be Shadow Education Secretary because Rayner didn't get a GCSE grade above D upon leaving school in 1996.[22]

In December 2019, Pearson falsely claimed that a photo of a child lying on the floor of a hospital was staged[23] and that she had been given “detailed explanation” that the photo was staged. She also said that the photo was “100% faked”.[24]. The trust that runs Leeds General Infirmary issued a statement which apologised to the family that only chairs were available in the treatment room the boy was in and no beds. The hospital’s chief medical officer also apologised. In the same month, after the 2019 United Kingdom general election result, Pearson wrote on Twitter in relation to antisemitism in the United Kingdom, 'So now all the Jews are staying who do we nominate to leave?'[25] In January 2020 Pearson described Labour leadership hopeful Rebecca Long-Bailey as an Alien.[26]

You could very well make the argument that voting for Labour anyway when they've just moved right or started finding the compromise between racist murder and not racist murder rewards that behavior.

If Labour consistently loses votes every time they move to the right, sooner or later the sun will die out.

I think the new pub open hours are bizarre. They can't open until 1700? All that does is prevent bar staff earning a living, I can get it if they want to prevent all day drinking but just do that at the weekends.

Same with shutting at 2200. If clubs are shut anyway I don't see the point. People will just drink faster and get more pissed.

Young people will still want to go out. All this has done is create massive flashpoints around the UK for pissed violence shortly after 2200.

Why? You're assuming that winning elections is a higher priority than stymying left wing policies, I don't think that assumption is true.

You can't discipline Labour by voting Green or whatever and hope they'll learn their lesson and accomodate you more in future. Labour doesn't give the slightest poo poo about your vote and if you're left-wing they would be happier if you were dead, speculating about 'oh if we don't play ball they'll learn to respect us' no they loving won't they won't ever respect you, the entire utitlity of the Labour Party to the left is the True Ending requires us to take it over and use it.

Someone ages ago posted a big list of all the free benefits MPs in opposition get, and whenever the question of why the Labour right would throw an election comes up, I think about that.

It's possible that they're delusional enough to think they can win an election from the centre right when a fully right wing party exists and is already in power. It's also possible that they're a bunch of grifters that want the free staff cars, expense accounts and offices/london flats that come with being an MP without any of the hassle of actually running anything or making difficult decisions.

My rural hell constituency is staying blue under any conceivable situation, so if they poo poo themselves on the manifesto then there's a conceivable case for voting to help the Green or Bob Smith's Independent Trotskyite Fifth International candidate keep their deposit rather than help red vote number go up under Starmer.

Electoral boycotts never work out without credible threat of alternative force though, peaceful or otherwise, and even then they usually don't work out well.
