So my 70 year old mum's been under the weather for a while, had a negative covid test and got told it might be worth doing a stool sample. She pops to the doctors, buzzes the intercom and gets told to put her hand through the letterbox to be given a sample tube. I can't imagine how many other people have put their hand through that letterbox. At least for her sake she had gloves and sanitiser on her. Surely this is woefully bad practice during a pandemic? Does it warrant a complaint to the CQC?

The new update today tells you to ignore the generic notification if it doesn't also trigger an NHS notification. It ain't perfect, but it's something.

This one is really neat because you can tune it to different continuous and boost levels depending on your needs, and it's suuper quiet. standard ducting and it's very unobtrusive. Because it runs continuously it doesn't use much power to achieve a drier room as well.

We're currently using a dehumidifier on a RCCD safety extension lead to stop the whole thing becoming a black mold farm, and we're probably going to hard wire one into the bathroom while doing the other stuff, so the humidity load shouldn't be too great, so that might work. fwiw I did find a proper non-ridiculous blower like what I was thinking, but it's in China and you have to contact for a price. But they do exist and have a frame that could be secured to joists if I went that route. No idea why they seem to not exist in the UK.

i had in march, i think at least. i was at a gig in a pub at the end of febuary and i was keyed in to what was happening so i bailed pretty quickly, but then developed fever, shortness of breath, and the worst shits i have ever had bar none in march. i've had noro, too. lasted for loving ever, kept getting better and then getting worse and killed my appetite. this was before i could apply for testing, although i had the option for an antibodies test but i declined, wasn't sure what i would have done with the information.

This is basically the exact same problem I had- painted shut window, and even if it was openable i'd need some way of ensuring a positive air pressure which seemed like a faff. The chinese fans I looked into all had poo poo reviews, and the UK ducted blower ones seemed noisy/anaemic for the price. That dmev isn't 'smart' as in smartphone. The CV3 version is but tbh I don't see the point of wiring my shitter into the cloud.

One of my favourite thing I may have to do if we find an injured person on the line that can't be moved is walk 2 km down the line holding a flag hoping that I get to the right place in time for a train, possibly going 125 mph, to see me so it can break in time. If that person is injured where two lines meet I may have to walk 6 km in total (they don't advise you run as you could injure yourself.)

Learningcurve11 had it too but she's not really a regular any more (she popped up a couple of days ago and is still active on Twitter if anyone's worried). I remember when the lockdown happened I'd counted 5 goon cases when we were arguing about what the infection rate might be - for a population both as London-phobic and social-phobic as this thread I was pretty impressed and worried.

I think the difference is whether or not you actually understand the reality of the situation or whether you think the flag waving and jingoistic rhetoric is the point. If you actually care about the material circumstances then yes, nationalists and protectionists have more in common, but if you believe that right wing politics is heavily characterised by not understanding the issues properly, it follows also that they don't understand the actual politics they support and are receptive to being entirely lied to and will back the lies and the liar as long as they keep up the nationalist rhetoric. If they were issues focused I don't think they would be right wing, if they are personality focused then it doesn't matter what issues their side creates as long as the person at the top looks and sounds the right way and says the right things. I haven't had corvid but my mental health is in the toilet (I mean it was already) and I probably won't have a job by the end of the year and I'm not sure how I'll pay the bills... Not really sure what to do or who to turn to the NHS system for MH help is hosed and my GP can't/won't offer me anything except an SSRI which in my experience makes everything worse. Condolences to everyone who has lost a loved one to Covid

My friend is in the same boat, wanted to come off medication, had a poo poo time, wanted something else but has to go back onto medication and hoping they can still get it post-Brexit. Cheery stuff. I think I had Covid back in March, just after my girlfriend at the time broke up with me who I was living with. I had to sleep on an airbed all week, I was simultaneously shivering and sweating, coughing my guts out every few minutes, kept getting into emotional conversations with my ex that had me on the floor gasping for breath, barely ate anything and had this horrible headache that didn't shift for another week until after I recovered. My scalp was also really sensitive, if I brushed my hand through my hair it hurt a bit. Overall it was a pretty poo poo month. But things got better, I even got a real bed in May.

Railchat: A lot of railways have the requirement to be fenced written into the original acts of parliament which enabled their construction. Depending on who you ask, that's either for protection of livestock, or because the owners of the estates they cross didn't want the railway oiks getting on to their land.
