They shut down the music app entirely. I've been using it to play stuff saved on my phone for a long time, but they won't even allow that. Grabbed some other music app off the store that didn't have ads.

google search is dominant because it’s still the best quality results. bing and yahoo and whomever never reached the same level even though there is absolutely nothing stopping them from doing so besides their own technical abilities. android is a real monopoly to go after.

it's bad, and yet not as bad as say bing, which directs common searches to scam sites and puts those fake tech support numbers on top of the actual company's listings because they're "sponsored"

agreed that google search is going downhill but it is still the current best. give me a search engine with better results and I will use it

i trying to imagine a search engine startup now a days, the server costs would be insane, google had a million servers 10 years ago

google had to build their own servers. a startup today can ramp up without owning any hardware

I work for an entity that uses gsuite because it's cheap. today we had an interview with a bunch of people over google meets that had to be recorded. No sweat - there is just a little button you press and it records the video stream and puts it in your drive. we've done this dozens of times today, there was no button. meets had updated and there was no longer any way to record. IT just went "🤷♂️ yeah nobody can figure it out lol". we switched to zoom a+ would goog again

a lot of small businesses do and it seems to be split between "it was cheap/someone recommended it and i didn't know any better" and "i've been using gmail since high-school, this is what i know" at least for the latter group they're used to things just changing and the vagaries of the platform, so whatever.

I am not sure removing them is going to get them more money than the bad rap they are getting over it

I originally choose google play because i listen to a lot of lovely no-label indie music that spotify, etc. don't have and YTM's library is also missing most of the same stuff. also, I hate the fact that it shares suggestions with my normal youtube account

Obviously if you open Outlook (or Gmail!) the New Email button is always going to be there, but even there MS has flip-flopped pretty heavily on Reply vs. Reply All being the default. As far as teleconference goes, MS Teams has made some similarly large changes in the "who moved my cheese" class.
