My problem with 5cp is that since both teams are attacking and defending at the same time there isn't enough coordination and people kind of split off and do whatever, it's why I don't like conquest in battlefield. I love attack/defend but I think most people don't given how often those maps don't get picked

Badlands used to be super campy because the last point capped so fast, a whole bunch of pubbers never felt comfortable moving off it after repelling a push. So you'd basically need to solo-cap second and hold it long enough for them to realize and push forwards. Now that you can actually get back to last if someone goes for a backcap, it's actually better. Even if I do miss ninja-capping it with the targe + pain train.

Ditocoaf posted:I swear Badlands and Granary and a few other of the oldest 5cp maps don't have that camping problem, so I've always thought it was a level design issue. But I'm not sure anymore, at this point it's just a memory of an opinion. It's been ages since I played a lot of 5cp since it's so unpopular. Badlands is a little harder to turtle in with the different routes of entry how spire can be defended while capping it and how quick last used to cap, and granary's last is wide the gently caress open.

Sunshine and Process are typically the best of the new 5CP. Their last has high ceilings compared to Badlands for bombing the other team and a lot of mixed levels of high ground. Unfortunately, like a lot of maps they break down when you have a 24 man match. Both are relatively good for 8v8 and below and excel in 6s (I know no one cares)

I personally much prefer 5 cp but it's dependant on having players that are slightly more experienced. I think the other game modes are much better at herding cats because it forces people to particular areas to fight. When matchmaking first came out I would have really bad games but now mostly everyone I play with knows that you have to just push/attack. You occasionally get games like people mention where your team is all engies and snipers setting up on last from the start but it's rarer now.

If you're tired of a 5cp map taking too long, just requeue.* Stalemating a round by only extending time on the first cap isn't going to make maps end any sooner, they'll more often that not extend maps because the team failing to push out of last is likely going to lose the midfight again, anyway. *Alternatively, go medic and build Uber/overheal your teammates. I've actually seen that happen, but only on Upward. I think it's a product of how the second blu spawn is the first red spawn, and the final blu spawn is red's second spawn. It moves the spawn points up to enemy spawns and I think after last is captured blu's new spawn is the final red spawn.

I've been playing mostly non-Halloween maps for the past few days and have noticed an insane uptick in bots. Like, 70% of matches seem to be decided by which team needs to waste the most time kicking bots (for whatever that's worth considering the bots just use the console to dodge the kick and rejoin 5 minutes later) Is this because Halloween is messing with the bot-to-player ratio in normal TF2? Because I know TF2's bot problem has ballooned in recent months but I heard that it was improving On the plus side, I am impressed at how efficient the playerbase has become at spotting and kicking bots.

Yeah so Halloween doesn't seem to have been the problem because casual matchmaking is still swarming with bots. Like shitloads of them and most matches are still mostly spent kicking bots than actually playing the game.

# ? Nov 30, 2020 03:55 |

I guess that the message was "Heavies don't make for great push ubers most of the time" but on the other hand the video, and the blurb, make the case that Pyro or Scout should take priority over a Heavy for Ubers when ehhhhhhhhh I dunno if that's good advice. Especially since Heavies have enough health to tank the damage required to get into position before getting ubered. It's possible to get some stupidly funny killing sprees by ubering a Pyro and letting them W+M1 into an enemy camp but Scout ubers are the sort of thing you're really only going to find in competitive scenarios and even then it seems like it'd be pretty situational.

pyro ubers are usually pretty good
|
# ? Nov 30, 2020 04:40 |

Pyro has incredible close range dps while still being relatively fast and not being restricted to a clip size, the only problem is that getting that close usually kills you but invulnerability solves that problem completely
|
# ? Nov 30, 2020 04:48 |

Pyro uber falls apart if there's a sentry you can't corner though.
|
# ? Nov 30, 2020 04:49 |
|
and they also added that thing where targets being hit by pyro flames reduces significantly their heal rate. that said they upped heavies dps against sentries so maybe theres a case there cause the pushback on a pyro could mean not closing the distance. still id rather uber a pyro cause it often means an insane amount of total damage dealt to a cluster of enemies

Pyro ubers take a lot of ground and in a pub setting, are pretty good as long as you're not facing a built-up sentry. They're a great resource for red team when you need to get space for everyone else to set up a good defense. Scout ubers only work if the scout is good. If you have that, and you're not needing to push into a sentry, they can charge in and kill the key players on the enemy team and then get out. Again, they're more useful on red team for their ability to disrupt the enemy push and prevent them from ubering into you. (In theory that can be countered by the medic playing much further back and players rotating back when they need heals - that will never happen in a pub.) Soldier Uber is kind of medium against a sentry nest - you can't jump in and don't actually have much ammo to shoot with. The times you're good are the times where a heavy is also not too bad. The big upside to a soldier is that after the gun goes down and the enemy team scatters, you actually get to chase and secure kills to keep the pressure on. Always uber the demoman.
