copy posted:Friend of mine is going on about how awful and racist we are as a country - which is true - and how that means we will never have anything good - which I disagree with. I'm hoping it's just anger and frustration, because whoever wins this election (and I loving hope it's Biden) the takeaway needs to be "we need to finally appeal to the non-voting population." If the best we can come up with is "well people just really love white supremacy whatchagonnado?" then why loving try any more? We cannot let ourselves use this as an excuse to get racist or to just focus on republican voters or turning them; it loving has to be about getting the majority of Americans who just do not loving vote to the polls, but I'm having a hard time getting this through. Or am I wrong? The biggest thing is give them a couple weeks to cool down. Most people are mad. This was supposed to be a blowout. And I genuinely wonder if it would have been a bigger one had it not been for covid and a poo poo load of voter suppression. Nonetheless, let them cool down, and then get them working at the local level. We need to start figuring out how to reach back out to rural voters because they're gonna start feeling the pain as red states slash everything further to the bone. In missouri it's getting harder and harder to get to any kind of hospital if you don't live near a population center. That's the kind of opening you need. Stop focusing on olds. Start figuring out what 35 and under want and how to motivate them. Bust rear end and start movements for election day as a holiday, or at least PTO to vote. Get involved with your city/council. Look for orgs. There was a goon in this very thread saying that a PM to them would result in a list of local orgs and things that do good and could use help. So that and pull your friend in.

skylined! posted:GA official just announced 61,367 remaining absentee ballots to count and wants to finish by 12p. Biden is currently down 18,590 votes, which means he'd need to win 65.1% of those ballots. I think he's on track to do so, but it's gonna be stupidly close (and probably all come down to a court decision anyways).

Volunteer for food collection and donation for thanksgiving. Give a homeless dude $10. Support your local BIPOC/LGBTQ activist group. Donate. Look for opportunities to help people that seem to need it, and make it a regular part of your life. Yeah I have tried pointing out the rise of mutual aid networks and grass roots power structures. I get a lot of resistance from folks about this, though. I think that it will take actually interacting with their communities for a lot of people to realize how far from over all of this is. I think part of it is just the reaction to years of indoctrination into the structure that elections is the only acceptable way for citizens to interact with their government/society and watching that prove to be kind of incapable of rising to the moment.
