Butter Hole posted:This is true. People vote emotionally. We need the Obama of democratic socialism. It's going to take more than that. This absolutely has to be done at a micro local level. You need people in communities reaching out to the people they know and convincing them on small granular levels. You can have a strong leader, but it's too easy to peg someone as a socialist and cause the lizard brain to take over.

Classon Ave. Robot posted:I literally said multiple times that I thought it was likely that Biden would win. I even said it in this thread. What post are you referring to? So you weren't with the consensus months ago, when people predicted that Joe Biden would be a blubbering mess getting trounced by Trump? My point is that "honestly believing" what's going to happen in 2 or 4 years doesn't mean anything. The political instincts of everyone here, including me, are basically divination. With that being clarified, I'll move any of my further thoughts on it to the other threads.

I certainly found him inspiring at times, but I also distinctly recall coming away from one of the Hillary/Bernie debates really deflated.

ummel posted:Judging by my liberal friends. A solid chunk of the blue votes also think that good proportion are not racist. Its a problem of definition. I'm would agree that a good proportion of those 67 million aren't explicitly prejudiced, which is what most non-academics or not very-online people think of when they use the term "racist." A good proportion of Trump's votes are just folks who like their taxes low and 401(k)s high, and don't really pay attention to politics more than that. They also don't examine or address any of their implicit biases or privileges. They resist any attempt to force them to do so. They are actively upholding a racist system and power dynamic. And that makes them racists. But thats because we define "racist" differently.

My favorite post on Facebook so far is a wife of a chud being unable to understand how mail-in-voting works. “I don’t get it, Trump had a lead and now they’re counting all these other votes?” It’s like, yeah, you count votes. Maybe if Trump didn’t tell his followers to not do any mail in votes this wouldn’t have happened.
