Back in 1877, Rutherford Hayes was literally going to the inauguration in March without knowing if he was president-elect yet.

Are these places going to count over the weekend, or are they done until Monday? I see that NC, GA, NV and AZ haven't had updates in hours.

I think PA at least is counting over the weekend. Judging by their tweets they want the spotlight off them and this poo poo over as much as we do.

Question, because I don't understand the electoral system very well, rewinding to before any results came in, was "Senate Blue, but Trump President" a realistic possibility? I'm under the impression that the way stuff would shake out, it would be way more likely to have gotten "Senate Blue + Biden."

I've seen similar arguements elsewhere. What I want to know is Republican turnout actually up or is this a there's just more people of voting age thing?

Dem senate if dem wave, or rep weak turnout. Possible outcome but polling was off. Trump presidency and rep senate if very weak dem turnout. Most unlikely. Dem senate and Trump presidency basically 0 odds. Weird outcome. cowofwar fucked around with this message at 06:21 on Nov 7, 2020 |

GOP strongholds made it easier for Republicans to vote. Democratic strongholds made it easy for everyone to vote. ergo, Republicans have it easy no matter what, and Democrats don't. This isn't rocket science.

Geshtal posted:I've seen similar arguements elsewhere. What I want to know is Republican turnout actually up or is this a there's just more people of voting age thing? It was the highest percentage of registered voters that voted since the total voting population doubled when women gained the right to vote. So yeah, turnout was high on both sides.

The sad part is that this is so protracted that the high of victory is wearing off and the realization that this is a return to the gridlock of 2012 is sinking in before the victory is even announced!

Democracy is building a system where everyone can vote, even dumb people, and institutions exist to mitigate the stupidity. Not restricting voting to who we say is a valid person

That is, if you feel like being generous. I say this in the desperate hope that some will see with The Leader finally absent that they were duped and may try to casually slip into the Biden supporting camp and pretend that they had been there the whole time.
