Teach posted:Nah, I used them to model radioactive decay when I teach. Throw 100, if a die comes up '1' then it's decayed and removed, roll the rest. Illustrates the laws of big numbers, half-life, things like that? Make a lot of noise, too. It's not a perfect model, but it does a good enough job at my level. That's an amazing idea.

What I use is M&Ms. Each group gets 100, then shake them up and pour onto a plate. M side up = decayed. Count leftovers, repeat until last one is gone. They have to graph their data and the class averages. Good way to get across how half-life works, and the randomness of the decay for any one particle. The only thing is that I have to count them out and dispense in snack size ziplocs, because they are sooooo slooooow at counting. Also have to make sure all the M&Ms have the M, and put aside the yellow ones. White printing is hard to see on that yellow. More for me!

M&M's is cool, but your half-life is always close to 1 throw, as each M&M is 50/50. With the dice, it's about 3.6 throws to remove half the sample, so a bit harder to intuit. But the M&Ms are tastier. You can always do 10 dice, graph it, and see it come out ugly. Then do that 10 times (so, effectively 100 dice) and see how it smooths the curve. Then do that 1000 times? How long have you got?!

Any recommendations for bluetooth earbuds? My last pair (Haylou GT1s) just had the charging case break, and I didn't really care for the capacitive-touch operation.

Definitely don't bet with them though.

Well, the 11.11 sale is on and popping, and I can't find any deals! I'm using the Aliexpress Superstar plug in to find real sales and almost everything on my wishlist is only like 10 cents cheaper than normal. Post some good deals if you find them today or tomorrow.

So the banggood drill still hadn't shipped after a week so I decided to cancel the order. They offered $2 worth of points to wait a week more, but I found that they now have a cheaper brushless one so it's on the way for $20. From this Project Farm video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkxpuzYggd4)I discovered they make tire compressors in regular power tool form factor, like this Ryobi: Has anyone seen a knockoff that would take the Makita batteries? I've seen a coupe but they all come with their own batteries. It'd be a great solution to save on extra battery bulk, weight and cost though. I'm buying a few things on 11.11--nothing too earth-shattering, just stuff on my wish list or freebies I keep going for and missing. I can recommend this store for beautiful, delicate mostly-wire jewelry: https://originaingenu.aliexpress.com/store/3883019 I have three or four pairs of interesting earrings from them and am about to buy three more (one as a gift), especially since I discovered that repeated mask donning/doffing doesn't play nice with long, dangly earrings. They're all really well-made and come boxed for gift-giving--and I wouldn't wait much past 11.11 if that's your intention, since they can take a little while to ship (I suspect they're hand-made in very small batches or even on demand). I think there's a coupon if you buy at least three, plus various free gifts.
