“So my friend and I did a thing yesterday,” local parent Cory Coates posted on Facebook after the dance. “We did a REALLY big thing. And we had a lot of support. And a lot of help. And a lot of really happy kids. And it was kind of amazing. And I really want to recognize and thank these people but I can’t. But my heart is full and I think the kids are happy and it was worth it. I would do it again. I’m happy and sad at the same time and I want normalcy. I think we delivered this for one night. #HOCORHS2020." This momma bear has reached Glenn Greenwald levels of bravery.

I assume Covid is going to infect about 70% of the population, with a death toll probably between 0.5 - 1%. Which is loving horrific when you look at the US as a whole. But in my area of florida, that works out to about 2,000 deaths across the county at the upper end. So all I have to do is not be one of those 2000. You can do better than that, be one of the 20% that never gets covid.

Now it's rising everywhere, so if this curbs movement even a little it could make a difference. A different ICU RN friend in southern King County said her hospital started accepting Covid positives again because the other hospitals ran out of beds

The worst loving place to shop, as expected, has been Whole Foods around here, it's full of people who refuse to mask I've been hitting the Aldi for produce but gently caress that, gonna try to go get groceries at 7:00 Am tomorrow at a local wannabe upscale place and see how that works out. Hopefully it's empty.

Lacrosse posted:Seattle. Back when I worked downtown I used to go for walks in Freeway Park but one of the resident homeless there took a fancy to me and started stalking me. This continued for several months until he started getting more and more aggressive and came at me. I don't know how I got away but I think another homeless guy stopped him as I escaped up a flight of stairs. That was the second incident, the first incident was a homeless woman who was outside the downtown Library branch on Second who got in my face, spittle and all, demanding money. Third time was a homeless guy around Third/Pike who asked me for change, I told him no I didn't have any, he followed me through the intersection then came right up behind me and started shouting aggressively at me. By this point I had a weapon and I flashed it at him and backed right off. Fourth time was this Spring in Federal Way, I was going for a walk near my office complex and a homeless guy decided he wanted me to be his wife, when I rebuffed him he followed me, then chased me through a neighboring business park and I had to escape up an embankment to get away from him. I also was followed through Pike Place Market during the early part of the pandemic, but I don't really count that since I wasn't assaulted, just freaked out. I usually have a way of defending myself but I just don't put myself in a situation to get attacked anymore. thats terrifying, thanks for explaining . i thought i'd seen it all living in chicago for a while but nothing like that

it's weird to me that utah is in the news and supposedly has worse numbers currently than mississippi because I just went from one to the other and there is a massive, unbelievably huge difference between the way the two places are treating it, at least where I was to where I am. In mississippi ALMOST NOBODY wore their masks correctly. In mississippi maybe 10% of employees at gas stations or fast food places were wearing masks AT ALL. Here, EVERYONE is wearing masks. I have seen 3 people in this state not wearing masks so far. When we've called to order food from places, before they hang up they very explicitly say 'remember, you have to have a face covering on over your mouth and nose or you will not be served.' We've walked by people who went out of their way as if they were sure we had the plague to be nowhere near us. It's so vastly different that it's impossible to overstate. But Utah is in the news like this, and Mississippi is listed as one of the states trending better. It is absolutely loving insane how hard mississippi is committing fraud and suppressing the real statistics, and I think that is the only real difference.
