I haven’t spent much time in these threads but in regards to the trash, fecal matter, and even corpses on the mountain: could drones potentially assist in cleaning some of this? I feel like this sounds like a ridiculous, bad faith question but I’m ignorant about how well a drone could work at a higher elevation. Are there any solutions to clean up the environment to improve conditions for the Nepalese who live and work around there?

No way anything commercially available could deal with the high winds, low visibility, low temperatures, and the fact that everything is embedded in ice and snow.

A helicopter landed on the summit once in near perfect conditions and it was a very bad idea.

I'm sure there will eventually be a robot of some sort we can send up there to clean stuff up but in the meantime the excrement and corpses are permanent residents.

Better to use a trebuchet to fling the trash and bodies off

Maybe drones could pick up the recently-discarded oxygen cylinders so that humans can concentrate on bringing down the more difficult stuff? But with the wind and other bad conditions I suppose making it to the summit despite swarms of drones slamming into you would be the new challenge.

Why don’t they just throw all the bodies and poo poo down the mountain. loving duh For some reason the mountain climbers have this weird fixation with picking up the trash and carrying it down, why not just roll it all down the hill and make gravity work for you. It’s so simple crazy eyes mustafa fucked around with this message at 01:33 on Nov 17, 2020 |

I watched a Russian documentary/reality show about summiting from Chinese side and what I took from it is that the upside is drastically less traffic and thus no lines, trash, etc, downside is that it requires actual climbing at a few points, hence the Chinese ladder. The guide company owner who arranges this made his selling point - as much luxury and comfort as realisctically possible at base camp, such as cooks, showers, a sauna of sorts as well as no crowds. The LOL part was that the "doctor" at base camp had no medical degree, he is just climber who picked up some doctoring at some point.
