Even after the body work to give it the r34 treatment it will still come in a lot cheaper. Granted, finding a turbo or twin turbo model will still be expensive as hell, and at that point I'd be afraid of ruining something valuable, but if I ever hit the lottery...

As a data point, this generation stock with a RB25 and a manual are about $8k CAD used in western Canada. The RB26+manual trim ones have sold this year for between 10-12k landed in BC from two importers I follow. Edit: So if any americans want me to keep a Stagea for them until they're legal, I will gladly do so.

I've got a non turbo version. As a guy in his early 30s I can say this is the right car. It's my wife's car and she loves the premium features. I like that it's still small and can hustle around corners if need be. But I also have a very modified WRX and miata to satiate my sporting needs. So if you want to refine your tastes a little, the Mazda 3 is a very low risk way to do that. Edit: it's still sportier than an Impreza or Focus which we also test drove before settling on the 3.

All the premium brands have their go-fast versions too so I don't see this necessarily as a reason to despair. Are there any news on the rumored RWD, I-6 model? That definitely has to get the the treatment.

I think Mazda Australia is still using "Zoom Zoom" as its tagline for its ads. Toyota still uses "Oh what a feeling!" tagline from the early 80s in theirs in Australia

Given that car marketing is all about selling a lifestyle, Mazda is selling the lifestyle in which your kid thinks dad has a cool car. And, if you're looking at buying a Mazda, you do not.
