If I can ever find another one, I'll be an RX guy again. Until then I'm just a guy with a couple of 12As sitting in his garage with nothing to put them in.

Light, small, amazing chassis, original powertrain that belongs on the bottom of the ocean and now, cheap(ish.) I suspect that mostly-original turbo FDs are about to start the upward price climb into the stratosphere.

There are currently 9 FD’s for sale on the largest car sales site in NZ. Most in the NZ$40-60K range. That’s USD28-42K. Friends brother has one with around 400hp, tastefully done, quality build, and was considering selling to fund a business. When he realised he’d probably never be able to afford to get back in to the market in future, he quickly changed his mind.

Would it be blasphemous (or particularly difficult) to swap a BP from an earlier Miata that had the poo poo boosted out of it? It *seems* like it wouldn't be, but then I'm not really an rx/rotary guy.

It totally would be, the big thing is that rotaries are loving short. A 13B is ~42cm long. 1.8L Mazda BP is ~50cm. LS is ~69cm. All that extra length is out front. The RX8 front subframe bolts right in to a NC Miata and vice versa.

I remember back in my protege days every so often some noob would join the forums and either ask about putting a rotary in a protege or 323 or claim they were going to do it (because they put a small block Chevy into a Toyota pickup) or claim they had already done it. One guy I remember his exact quote: "I got a 13b with a t23 and a blitz blow off valve". Oh skr33t r4c3r what hath become of thee? E: I remember what I originally was going to post about now. I seem to recall a couple rotary powered 323s in new Zealand around the early part of the century. I think they were bf or bg chassis. Don't recall if they were front or all wheel drive. wesleywillis fucked around with this message at 01:05 on Dec 2, 2020 |

I know how to maintain a rotary, but a lot of folks have trouble keeping their lawnmower running, much less something as different as that. Not sure how an LSx would be less reliable if done properly (which is the key.) I'll admit that my first love is V8s - I'm 51, after all - but I actually discovered the rotary, at least in concept, via a model of the 10A my grandad gave me when I was a preteen. I don't think I actually "experienced" one until I bought my '79 in '94. and I'm still experiencing it. Pieces of it, anyway. I'd love to have a 20B, but I'm going to need to win the Texas Lottery for that to happen. Comedy option: there are guys on RX7Club swapping in Ford 3.0 and 3.7 V6 engines. edit: into FCs, to be clear.
