BSG never clicked with me at all, it was an unappetising blend of mystery box storytelling, grimdark cynicism and and very (for the time) television effects and performances. Nerd poo poo, basically.

Russians objectively have the coolest given names. E: also I don’t really think that Portland is the model of the next american revolution, or really anything other than what happens when a chud white police force, an overwhelmingly coffee socialist white city, and a white chud countryside meet in their state founded on white supremacy. I cannot loving stand dudes like Robert Evans going “LESSONS FROM PORTLAND: THIS IS THE WAR: LISTEN TO MY PODCAST” If the Pacific Northwest exploded tomorrow and every inhabitant died, the rest of the country wouldn’t notice. Every major city I've been to a red light means "OK, one more car can go through." So light will go red, one or two cars will cruise through the intersection, and then the two people that had been waiting the entire cycle for the turn go through the first couple seconds of the green. It's 100% understood and accepted. I've seen someone get out of their car to threaten someone for not pulling into the intersection once. I really do love city driving. It's basically high stakes bumper cars.

My dad is a stickler for weird driving laws, some I think he makes up (can't drive without shoes on) but even in the rural/suburban places he drives he pulls into the intersection on yellow. It's a done thing and pretty sure it's not just accepted but perfectly legal. If not I'd love to rub his nose in it.

iirc it's illegal because if you get rear ended you'll be pushed into incoming traffic so far in defense of it we have: impatience poor time management pride all trashy traits. I did post it in this thread for a reason though also the anecdote about a dude getting out of his car to yell about it doesn't help the "not trashy" argument either

A quick glance at the US shows its legal in NY and illegal in WA but the wording in the latter is unclear. Interestingly, you might be cited for causing congestion if you didn't enter the intersection in the latter, depending on context. Obviously, each state will have its own law.

The safe thing is to crawl into the intersection, but not turn your steering wheel until you're ready to make your turn. That way if you get rear ended you won't go into oncoming traffic and instead just hit the other driver trying to turn the other way in front of you! Easy peasy!
