The Christmas Switch explains it away with not-all-white princess the result of one of her parents or grandparents being a foreigner of indeterminate non-European ethnicity (and was in fact distantly related to the American who looks like her). The Christmas Prince however did not explain how their small European kingdom used to be in conflict with an Asian country in medieval times.

Xealot posted:Not for nothing, I do think that's an intentional thumb on the scale on behalf of Netflix. Hallmark-style Christmas rom-coms are shockingly conservative for mass-popular media, and the ambient whiteness of them feels pretty central to the genre. So, Netflix making their own find-replace version of that thing and casting POC actors does feel like a choice with an intention. Some of them even throw in LGBT characters...not as the lead, mind you, but they're around. To be mildly fair to Hallmark, one of the actresses they use the most in their holiday movies is Alexa PenaVega, who has been in multiple movies with her husband Carlos (who are both hella Christian in addition to being Latino), so Hallmark is inching verrrry slowly in that direction as well. Also they had a movie with a gay couple in it this year, one of them was in Mean Girls (although ironically it was Lindsay Lohan’s love interest, who came out a while back, and not the guy that everyone immediately thinks of when you say “gay actor who was in Mean Girls”) Edit: I’ve actually just learned that all three of the notable male high schoolers in that movie (Aaron Samuels, Damian Leigh and Kevin Gnapoor) are gay irl. The character models are whatever, too...overall, there's such a dullness to it. The expressiveness of hand-drawn Ghibli is completely gone. If you want a late-Ghibli story about a little girl that involves witches, Mary and the Witch's Flower is what you want. What happened to Studio Ponoc? They released that and I haven't heard of anything since.

It's tough because while it follows Clive Owen the whole way (hence his face on the posters I guess) - it's not really *his* story. The last poster tries to rise above that, but the first two...blech. Anyway gonna rewatch that movie cuz goddamn it good.

Apparently Alamo Drafthouse is doing so bad financially that the CEO is selling off his/their entire collection of Mondo posters, some ~2300 in all. Alamo owns Mondo so I can only assume this is one of almost everything Mondo has ever released. http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/records/80/sort/4/15.html
