A local premium dealer had an LFA in for detail and coating and they made a huge deal about it on Facebook. It was really neat to see one up close.

NitroSpazzz posted:Please post all the Dakar It really is the most wonderful time of the year! Here's this year's course. Last year was extraordinary. It was the first year ever that an American won! And he did it in the moto category on a honda, breaking KTM's absurd streak (and then another american won on a side by side but because they started later that dude is second and he is not ricky brabec). But KTM has a murderer's row of former winners, including "mulleted aussie fat kid who learned to race on farm bikes" Toby Price. This is an excellent video redbull did about him. We'll see how it goes this year but Brabec has been training pretty seriously all year and Honda seems to continue to be behind him as their number one rider (finally!) so hopefully it will be a good race. My money is still on KTM to regain the title but Honda's issue has always been shooting themselves in the foot so it will be an interesting question to see if last year was just luck or if they've finally found some consistency. Some dakar discussion with Brabec and Short. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SL8icNS49PE&t=4140s I think it's kind of funny that the two fastest guys are both former fat kids. Brabec at one point was ~3 bills before getting more serious about his racing (and diet) and he said that the ability to just shovel garbage into his face was really helpful because guys with sensitive stomachs lost too much weight over the course of the rally. It's interesting to see, too, that even with a win last year KTM (and white-KTM, Husqvarna) represent the vast majority of entrants in the moto category. This is probably just because KTM provides much better support for their non-factory racers than anyone else. There's a big truck that you can buy literally any part for your KTM rally bike from and it gets billed to your home-dealer who then charges you for it. Someone is running a hybrid motorcycle. No, I don't know either. Details on his page are... sparse. https://www.willyjobard.com/ On the car front, this year there's a new classic car category With some cool looking entrants. Extensive fact checking confirms that this one is the best. Sponsored by "Global Company" Of course, none of these are going to be able to compete with the modern cars. In fact, they're not even able to run the same race with a special 12 stage event designed just for them. I think it's just going to basically avoid any of the big dunes where they wouldn't have the power:weight to get through and you'd end up with a bunch of overheated old cars stranded on day 3. Yeah... not quite the same. Something to watch for next year, Audi is bringing an all-electric rally car! https://www.audi-mediacenter.com/en/press-releases/audi-to-compete-in-dakar-rally-13440 Running off a battery charged by a TFSI eng... hold on a minute. https://www.audimichiana.com/audi-tfsi--engine.htm Well, I guess it's progress? Still, we had this last year so I'm not holding my breath for a huge step forward from Audi. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awLRY8ELvsg That's it for today. In the next few days I'll post about the rule changes this year and how they attempt to stop filthy, filthy cheaters and actually make everything much worse. Maybe. Correction from yesterday: de Soultrait and AVB aren't on the same team anymore, with de Soultrait moving to Husqvarna. It's OK, he still has our best interest at heart.

Just wanted to say how delightful it is to be reading about cars on a forum and having the far right universally mocked. As I'm sure you all know, this take doesn't exist in any other car forum that's even slightly US-adjacent. Thank you all, AI rules.

Doctor and very creative on how to make money with old, supposedly rare Porsches. In several court cases he was found to have faked Porsche VINs, repurposing numbers of wrecked, stolen cars or otherwise copied VINs and sold off common model Porsches as supposedly rare, e.g. RS models for many 100.000s of EUR each. Cars and parts were oftentimes not even purchased, but outright stolen. One of his property was littered with Porsche chassis, until one of his defrauded customers sued him. With shoddy modifications and sloppy handywork many buyers discovered this after a while. Within two weeks these chassis disappeared, forever. Supposedly they never existed, if it weren't for all the photos and videos. Unfortunately Dr. Erik Brandenburg was able to get out of the hot seat by simply donating several 10k EUR to charities. He seems to be diligent in purging his record from the internet and to this day is featured in news articles lauding him as the "most interesting man in things Porsche". Idiotic, if you ask me. He is or was defrauding buyers, stealing vehicles, faking VINs, bribing offials at the German DMV and got off easy. Watch a report about it in German or search in Porsche Forums for "Dr. B Hamburg Diebstahl": https://www.facebook.com/cars2sale.net/videos/vb.475749765930660/796320917206875/?type=2&theater Best moment is 07:05 with him running into the door before his hearing:

Looks wise, it could be a GTR with a body kit, and the performance is close enough that I don't see why anyone wouldn't just buy a GTR and save $150,000. The rarity of them makes them interesting now I guess, but it seems similar to that $70,000 Subaru STI they just put out, why the gently caress would you spend that much more? If it's as an investment, I guess it makes sense, but personally I'd never buy a car to just look at it. All that said, the exhaust does sound great.

It reminds me of the many many pretty high end built motors for Aussie dragcars that were acquired in SA and NSW from ill-gotten gains that disappeared literally into the bush and the ground when 'profits from drug dealing' investigations started 6-7 years ago. I can with a lot of confidence are all melted or ruined from last years fires. Rest in Slag!

France has the best live coverage if you speak french (and honestly sometimes even if you don't). Otherwise, coverage is pretty spotty and generally limited to facebook links and such. I'll post links to the stuff I'm watching when we get there. Until then, here's another test. It's always amazing to me how they manage to make vehicles that can go so fast on such bumpy terrain and still maintain the ability to steer well. It seems like an obvious point but every time I see it I'm like "poo poo that's fast how do they not die?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kF3YVUJ_7J0 Mo Hawk posted:This is Dr. Erik Brandenburg. Really though, I just want new parts for my SA22C, especially some little plastic trim bits and clips. I’m going to have to 3D print some stuff.

Interesting Mazda extended the heritage parts program to other cars. I don't know a single person, myself included, who has bought a new heritage part for the NA Miata which started years ago.

Originally they didn't even offer parts in Europe. Looks like this changed in October, so that's really cool. For now though parts are easy to get from the junkyard or aftermaket, and I'm a cheap bastard (with an NB).

I have to say that the parts list is really sad though. Mostly hoses and fasteners and a few boots.

I like to think they'll expand it eventually. But on the other hand, rubber parts rot and typically get cut Or otherwise hosed up in junktards because who bothers to get junkyard hoses (for example). When you yank out a rad from a junker most people cut or otherwise mangle that poo poo.

Cheapest way to get 12A housings now is to machine down 13B ones. While 3d printing isn't something that can solve the full dashboard problem, I have had success printing the vent, center stack, aux cluster and gauge cluster trim pieces. Can't quite get the right texture yet but it's close.
