oh totally, but to the progressive and the leftist who have deeply drunk from the poisoned well of lesser evilism, receiving nothing in exchange for their sacrifice is taken as proof that the alternative would be worse, rather than that their strategy was entirely flawed.

with this thread in particular it is very hard to tell when people are actually working towards leftist goals in between the shitposting or are just devoted to being mad on the internet to the expense of all else. I don't like DSA and often can't help myself from dragging them during some of their more impotent moments (like now) but I'm also pretty on edge about all these media personalities that don't do a thing and their followers that do less. The line between making fun of " " " organizing " " " and resigning yourself to just being angry all the time from behind your computer is close enough that it's worth calling out

kind of hard to blame people for being disillusioned in all directions when 90% of “left organizing” turns into “let’s help the democrats in just this oooooone last race because it’s so important” and the biggest leaderless/decentralized oppositional movement we’ve seen probably in many of our lives devolved into people kneeling with cops and arresting their fellow protesters

who’d have thought that resisting capitalism in the belly of the beast would be so hard

We don't do actual planning here. I plan with my local communists is my city. This is a poo poo talking forum. Discussing praxis happens and right now forcing the vote for m4a has a couple of prongs of praxis. As an aside we get to poo poo on people who are apathetic towards meaningful change. Calling out the thread for not being the vanguard is missing the mark.

when "organizing" is used as some kind of exclusive alternative to actually demanding things from the ruling classes then it's just a smokescreen for servility, hth

The thing is that the DSA cannot be this org. They are too plugged into the democratic party and will never lead protests that implicates both major parties. Despite the name, an org devoted to promoting a single capitalist party is not a socialist org.

I recognize the DSA is one of the best options we have now, which just underlines the sad state of things.

The justice Dems can't be part of it either. They sometimes say the right things, but when the chips are down, they will forward the theory that the GOP is the cause.

What we need is something like the BPP or a real socialist party to organize efforts and train people at a high level.
Maybe my chapter is more radical than the one around you, but I don't think it is infeasible for DSA to be a socialist org; now it's not going to turn into the next Socialist Party (frankly it shouldn't imo) but can lay the ground for an actual socialist org, the thing that will need to happen is to push it more left than it currently is because there are still issues with factions who do indeed want to just be the dem reformist org.

This is pretty much dead on. The left is fractured as hell, and it's by design.

also it’s sort of impossible to talk about left organizing without the elephant in the room that U.S labor unions have been gutted, destroyed, thoroughly bureaucratized, and broadly folded into the DNC machine. I can’t tell you how many young leftists I’ve watched go into labor organizing because they think they can make a difference, and then they end up spending their weekends making house calls to members reminding them to support Andrew Cuomo in his primary battle
