Pressups seem to help me in the immediate and short term, as a quick set of 25 or so helps to relax my shoulder and back muscles afterward which helps with tension. Also, a stroll outside and a cup of tea are always nice.

Keep your eyes shut and get comfy on your bed while trying to follow along with whatever you're listening to. Let the inside of your eyelids become a screen that your eyes are projecting images onto, seeing just enough into the darkness of your inner lids that your brain starts seeing stuff and making out rooms and objects even though you're not looking at anything. Keep doing both of those things and let yourself zone out after awhile and hopefully you'll reach the point where your thoughts no longer make sense but you're cognizant enough to recognize that they don't make sense. Let yourself continue in this state until you fall asleep. Let your brain process your emotions and feelings and thoughts while your body gets to take a nice rest from the stress.

really appreciate the responses. my body's also falling apart (covid didn't help) so i've been neglecting physical exercise. and i can't really do the calmness thing. i get really agitated and start thinking about all the regrets, all the things that went wrong, and all the things that will go wrong. i have to distract my brain from thinking about those things, but sometimes nothing works.

For the regrets, all I can advise is trying to forgive yourself. Guilt is a poison that can corrode everything in your life. And I'm sure you didn't have control over everything you feel bad about, nor should you be expected to control the future. Focus on the things you can do, even if they're very small things like ordering your groceries or beating a video game. We are all of us trapped in the same prison of life. But that means none of us are alone.

Don't listen to that voice in your head, there's legit nothing to be embarrassed about. Therapy is cool and good. I'm going to bed shortly, but feel free to ask me anything about you'd like mate

your wellbeing is a bunch of positive feedback loops so you have to do something before it gets better. but the something doesn't have to be big, just acknowledging that you deserve happiness is a good first step. It's also important to remember that all your self-doubt can be traced back to late-stage capitalism and the system isn't going to crush itself!

One thing I think is important for you to know Rinkles is that if you see a psychiatrist and/or a therapist, it is completely okay if you don't like them or aren't feeling like they're a good fit and looking for another to try out. It's like trying on shoes, walking around in shoes too large or small for you is technically better than being barefoot but it's okay to shop around for a decent pair that'll fit you well.
