The Q people are happy to believe Biden has been arrested already. That the military is in control. This is a fake administration. But if you tell them the military needs all 4 years of Bidens term to prepare they get very upset.

This is the same fallacy as "the beatings will continue until morale improves". You can't beat nazism out of a nazi, even though that's exactly what they themselves think is the cure for various ideological ailments. Lots of well functioning people in society have completely hosed beliefs. But as long as they're not oppressed (properly oppressed, not "they won't let Kid Rock sing the n-word on Rush" type of oppressed), ostracized, starving or in group psychosis, they have little reason to become terrorists. Most of them anyway.

The important thing is to keep making a society where nazism doesn't spread and you do this best by giving everyone good education and health care, so that they get good skills, understand their society and their rights and don't have any big life changing problems which could otherwise have been easily solved. America has a long way to go here. Think how good it can get! I've been getting subsidized creams for eczema all my life, maybe Steve Bannon would be a really nice guy today if he didn't itch so bad.

Group psychosis is perhaps too strong a term and doesn't apply to most Qers, but there's also something about being part of a big movement, particularly if you're disenfranchised to begin with. Lots of Qers have probably never felt so good in their lives as being part of this cult and they don't have the knowledge or experience which informs the morality which condemns calls for insurrection, execution etc. It wasn't a well reasoned process that concluded that sawing Nancy Pelosi's head off was going to erase their credit card debt, but a big group of people with sudden hope loves shouting YEAH at whatever a powerful figure tells them.

Many of them, hundreds of thousands, are hopelessly evil fucks, but they can live out their lives just fine in a good society without causing harm, and everybody else can do too without having to be their friend.

Most of these people aren't nazis, they are just really loving stupid people who fell for a grift and landed themselves in the mother of all mind-cages.

ACTUAL nazis , the guys who misapropriate skinhead fashion or wear stupid ghost costumes and go around beating up black folks and jews frankly deserve more than a beating, they deserve whatever society bases its standard on making dangerous people go away permanently. They are, after all, terrorists.

As for the lovely old boomers who where running about doing hosed up Q poo poo, well they need consequences appropriate to the damage they have caused. Theres a lot of folks with hosed up brains walking around completely incapable of engaging with reality, and thats a bad thing. Certainly the leadership of the movement is in desparate need of serious consequences. But we do need to leave a door open for people to escape this cult. You can't block the path back to reality and normality, you'll never see the end of this if we do.

Did reconstruction really fail? There hasn't been a civil war since. Did it deliver perfect unity? Nope, but that's a tall order. Who knows what this time will look like in 1000 years. Maybe our time will be a brief gasp of enlightened air between two dark oceans of autocratic oppression. But maybe the future is so bright that future students will think everything was solved in 1865 and only annoying history students will go "well actually it took 200 years".

I think you'll find a lot of older black folks who would point out that it absolutely failed. The war just changed its target to black people. The Klan lynched tens of thousands of black folks, segregation and jim crow laws reduced a civilian population of black americans to near third world conditions for generations. Even though white folks stopped killing each other, poo poo was very bad for black folks for a long long time. Arguably to this very day.

Lynching didn't even have to be Klan. There were plenty of white dudes not wearing white hoods that no problem with murdering a Black person for daring to even look them in the eye The threat of lynching was a game to some white people. They kept Blacks in line with that fear. Do what they white man says or he's likely to murder you and/or a bunch of your family and friends. There are some very loaded scenarios, politically, as the most common reason given for lynching - at least in the thousands of cases I've read about - is the sexual integrity of a white woman.

That said, lynching never went away, really. They just use different names for it now, depending on situation. Castle doctrine, self-defense, wearing a hoodie, etc.

Just anecdotally, a fellow gay guy I used to work with quit his job last February and moved to Florida after becoming a total Q nut last winter. He was always somewhat conservative but he went totally off the deep end and spends all day arguing with his former friends on Facebook now. He was one of those kind of sad schlubby mid 40s gay single guys that came up in the club/goth scene of the late 80s early 90s and went from being apolitical/culturally conservative to a total reactionary shithead in the span of like the 5 years I worked with him.

I used to hang out when he would have work ppl over, but he kept getting more and more insane and annoying (and handsy, because of course) until I had to finally stop going over to his place all together. Still loves all the gay camp classics and goth music and poo poo but just absolutely rotted brain. No chance of reasonable discussion whatsoever. He also made a really awkward and uncomfortable, unwarranted pass at one of my straight buddies at a pool party which should have been an early warning sign.

I mean at least one Flat Earth documentary I saw made it pretty clear it is intertwined with some really toxic bullshit too (MRA, great replacement, blah blah) but I suppose it isn't inherent to the belief in flat Earth...just you know, similar cross-sectional of the populace.

Biblical literalism? Yeah, they're going to believe that evolution is a hoax and gay people should be stoned to death too.
