Say what you want about national socialism, at least it's a strong aesthetic. Röhm is a bit on the chubby side though. An eye-patch would turn him into Captain Blackbeard more than a Prussian panzer commander.

I've browsed /pol/ a few times today to see what the reaction to Trump's "office of the former president" announcement has been and it's strange, there's not much Trump content at all. Ctrl+F for Trump usually yields only a few hits on the front page, and usually just in random replies to a non-Trump related thread.

Don't get me wrong, the forum is still as toxic as ever, but it's just general racist, LGBT-phobic, culture wars type stuff. Basically the same as it was during Obama's second term, before the 2015 primaries even kicked off.

I think /pol/ is a good weathervane of the GOP, and at this rate it looks like Trump is going to turn into another Dubya: mocked by the far right for being an ineffectual dunce who surrounded themselves with "undesirables". Trump has so far remained silent after leaving office (probably the most presidential thing he's done). If he leaves his base out in the cold for the next few weeks, I can see them turning hard on him.

no, there was a minor chest thudding about biden using the title "office of the president elect" because chuds are ignorant and claimed no one had ever used that before despite the title existing since the 30's and trump himself using the title.

Canada definitely has Q crackpots but as far as I know there’s no Deep State conspiracy here yet. My belief is that the ‘Deep State’ is just a coping mechanism for the right. Since the liberals are in power here there is no need to blame the deep state for anything because the state itself is the target of their hatred. If the conservatives were in power and people noticed that their lives still sucked and they weren’t getting ahead then it must be the deep state holding things back to sabotage the government.

No they literally believe every pilot is in on it.

https://wiki.tfes.org/Aviation

quote:

Aviation, or air transport, refers to the activities surrounding mechanical flight and the aircraft industry. Discussion on this topic revolves around the assertion that aircraft instrumentation are built to assume, and pilots are taught to fly, over a flat, non-rotating earth.

quote:

One can of course believe anything one likes as long as the consequences of that belief are trivial, but when survival depends on belief, then it matters that beliefs correspond to manifest reality. We therefore teach navigators that the stars are fixed to the celestial sphere, which is centered on a fixed earth and around which it rotates in accordance with laws clearly deducible from common sense observation. The Sun and the Moon move across the inner surface of this sphere and hence perforce go around the earth. This means, that students of navigation must unlearn a lot of the confused dogma they learned in school. Most of them find this remarkably easy, because dogma is as it may be, but the real world is as we perceive it to be.

Tldr every pilot is taught to unlearn that the world is round and instead that the earth is flat. Yet, somehow, they are kept in line to keep the conspiracy going.

One of their proofs is from a physics homework problem that says “assume the earth were flat.”

Easy

https://wiki.tfes.org/Flat_Earth_-_...of_the_Earth.3F

quote:

As a passenger on an aircraft, how is it I can see the curvature of the Earth?

Quite simply, you cannot.

If the Earth were round, one would need to observe it from an altitude of 60,000ft in ideal atmospheric conditions (assuming a field of view of at least 90°) to have a clear view of the supposed curvature[1]. Commercial aircraft do not fly this high. Generally, cruising altitudes vary between 33,000ft and 42,000ft[2], with 36,000ft being a commonly-cited figure. In addition, the windows on commercial aircraft are small and heavily curved. Even if they flew high enough for a person to see curvature, it would still not be visible to passengers.

It is likely that those claiming to have personally visually discerned curvature from an aeroplane are experiencing a form of confirmation bias.

It's a mathematical theory paper, so the writers reduce negligible environmental variables to simplify the math... because that's what you do in these things. They saw the word "linear" and said "gee, that means the plane is flying in a straight line!" Linear, in this sense, means that the mathematical model itself is linear, which has nothing to do with the flight path.

So they're trying to read something waaaaaay beyond their understanding and mathematical skills and completely misinterpreting it and claiming that "even NASA admits the world is flat and non-rotating."

I tried to point these things out the the person online who posted this, boy was that a mistake. They went loving nuts just spamming me with all sorts of Qanon, NWO, etc. crazy webpages.

That wiki says they accept the notion of an atmosphere, except that it’s flat so they call it the atmolayer and there are multiple layers.

As for the gravity thing, I get what you’re saying but there’s a bit of a difference between a planet orbiting/falling around a more massive object (which in turn orbits around something with even more mass) to their take that the earth just accelerates upwards forever for some unknown reason.

E: Going back to the original post about this being a relatively harmless conspiracy theory, yeah that’s true in isolation, but beneath it all these people and the people who believe in more dangerous conspiracies like Q have in common that they have an idea of how the world works, and they go out of their way to look for explanations to justify and confirm their beliefs. No amount of concrete proof will matter to them because they don’t want proof, because it’s already true to them. I don’t know much about Q to be honest but they already believe that all democrats are satanic baby eaters or whatever, and no amount of evidence against that will change their mind. These flat earth people already know the world is flat, and no amount of evidence will change their mind. The only thing that will ever change is their goalposts. And that’s pretty loving dangerous.

Not to defend flat earth, but this isn't how it works in relativity. You can accelerate at a "proper acceleration" of 1g (as experienced by the observer being accelerated) indefinitely, but from an external frame of reference you'll appear get asymptotically closer to the speed of light.

Edit: Though the chances of flat earthers believing in relativity are quite low.

There's a pretty strong impulse behind the flat earth stuff to humiliate and crush perceived enemies. They hate nasa and college professors a lot and imagine bloody revenge against them as the ultimate outcome of them being right in the end. Not every flat-earth person goes in thinking that way, but that's probably a big part of the radicalization they undergo, and it's linked closely with the desire to be correct and smarter than everyone else, which is what would attract them in the first place. There's a big religious component to flat earth, just like with q, and those people 100% want to kill or otherwise dominate everyone who isn't like them.

God created the world and stuck a lid on it while it was accelerating to speed, and over the last few thousand years we've been going about one light year per year down the timeline. It's basically just a big long tube.

You have to get some initial acceleration in before you're going fast enough that the bussard ram scoop on the roof can start collecting the souls you need to get humans.
