Every time I look at NB Miatas for sale I keep seeing pristine low mileage automatic cars for cheap and raged out manuals at crack pipe prices.

Really tempted to get a slushbox NB and do a manual swap. I've done it once before, it's a pain in the dick but not completely horrible.

I almost did that myself but found a beater.

I used to have so much fun "offroading" in my little Subaru in the Oregon forests and desert, not doing anything terribly complicated but just having fun exploring random trails and stuff. Lil' Beefy seems like the platonic ideal of a car for that sort of thing, just cruising around in nature. I love my ND but I'm a little jealous.

Yeah doing some light off-roading in a little convertible does sound very nice and fun.

What's the generally accepted answer to the "what size wheels on an NA/NB MX5?" I'm just looking at the moment, it's way down the list but what fits and doesn't ruin the way the thing handles? Definitely thinking keeping the 15s because smol wheels are best.

15's, at whatever width you want to run for your tire size / suspension setup allows.

I believe 15x8 running 205 to 215 mm is the preferred racing set up. Not sure on the offset. I run 14x6 Work mesh wheel for a more factory look. They're adorable.

I'm running 15x8 on mine. But the proper answer is smallest wheel that clears your brake / suspension setup.

My Miata is punishing me for not driving it enough. Got the AGM battery, cleaned up the battery clamps, put the battery in. Interior light came on, odometer, etc. Great. Went to start it and poof - everything cut out. Guessing I blew the fuse. So I've pulled the new battery out for the time being. And now the northeast just got like 18" of snow so it's going to be awhile before I pop the hood and figure out what blew. No snowy day donuts for this car. :(

I'm on the stock wheels, imo 15x6 is a good size for the car though it could be a bit wider if you wanted to run 215s or something. 16", even stock ones from the various SEs look huge.

Stupid question and way too late into ownership, but how is the floor mat supposed to be secured in an NBFL? It got somewhat stuck today and I realize I never figured it out. There's a hole in the mat in the rear right corner, but nothing on the floor to secure it to

I run eneki rpf1’s in 14” with the new falkan azenis rt660’s and I can’t imagine needing more grip - plus the fat sidewalls look amazing.

^ what are the specs on them my dude? Fully agree that sidewall is a strong look on a tiddly car like this. If I can actually get the tyres I'll go 14 but having a quick look it seems like that's seriously cutting down the choices I have with a set of 15s.

14's will significantly limit you in terms of tire availability, wouldn't recommend. 15" can be nice and beefy...

While not entirely applicable to the posted question, my gripe about 15's is that if you want to run a 245 you get:
Hoosier A7/R7
Hankook RS4 (forever backorder)
Maxxis RC1 V1
Toyo RR
Nankang AR1
Nankang CR1
BFG Rival S

The AR1, RR, RS4, and RC1 are all fairly similar lap time wise, based on what 949 has said, but you don't get the current fast stuff like the A052 / RT660 or even the current version of the RC1 so you're kinda hamstrung if you're bound by classing.

I've got black 16" RPF1s with winter tires on a red ND, and it's like the spitting image of your car. I just moved from a mountain state that uses no salt to a state that gets a lot of snow and uses a lot of salt, so I'm not sure I'll use them again: it's mentally easier just to park the car when it snows out here and not worry about trying to get the salt off every time it gets over freezing.

A week or two ago I managed to get out from work before all the snow melted or was cleaned out and tested my freshly repaired drone.

My drifting still sucks because there's hardly any opportunity to practice. It's been raining or snowing almost nonstop since then but never enough to stay on the roads.

Alright, let's do this
Weird question: what's the tallest tire I can squeeze in an NC? I have an 06 with the water-fording suspension height, and most of the guides and posts I can find are trying to squeeze wider tires under the wheel wells, but I'm not really interested in width as I am in height/sidewall.

Also, what wheels look good with NCs? Torq thrusts are my default answer but I can recognize that they really don't match the style of the car.

What size wheels are you running? What's your goal here? Comfort? Lower RPMs at highway speeds?

Currently 205/50r16, I'd like to fill out the wheel well a bit better and also make it a bit comfier. I don't track my car so I'm not too worried about performance. The stock suspension is already hard enough for my tastes, I don't want to lower it.

I admit I wouldn't be opposed to making lil beefy's big brother, but I doubt I can find an all-terrain that would squeeze in.

Yeah they do yearly production runs and once they're out they're out till next year it seems. Typically come in around March-April, though who knows with COVID. I can check with my tire guy if you want and are willing to pay to ship from Canada.

Hankook's distribution model from like 10+ years ago was "send a mystery cargo container filled with tires". I'd like to imagine that maybe now Hankook US/NA has a better idea of what's in the pipeline and what their inventory is going to be, but uh...

Mazda is missing a huge opportunity here to release an electric powered Miata and basically cover up any losses on their other vehicles, maybe they can just start selling ONLY Miatas (note have no idea what I’m talking about)

The ND is so good, and I can't figure out why they don't sell a 510/2002 sized car with that drive train. $30k+ Mazda 3s can't sell that well, but if they were RWD sports sedans, maybe they would? I hope the RWD 6 rumors end up being something like this, but I bet the execution won't be as good as the idea.

People already complain that the ND is too slow, imagine if it weighed 800 more pounds.

I also don't have any hope for a future sporty Mazda outside the Miata. They had a chance with the Mazda3 turbo and intentionally decided not to. The RWD 6 will probably just be a Lexus IS competitor, which is not a bad thing but I don't know if I'd call it a sports sedan.
