TechnologyConnections is so good that I hoard the episodes... which I know is dumb.

Is there some rule about having a playlist of content that starts at the beginning and ends at the last, most recent episode? It seems like such a nobrainer, but very few have it at all.

If someone knows such a playlist for TechnologyConnections I will be ever grateful

Nah he’s high quality and passionate about some things just it’s taking him awhile to sort out space and he frequently reviews poo poo that’s unusual technologically but not something he is personally passionate about (his home video camera series he’s really excited for).

But the most important video to watch on this channel is this one. He does not love the product. No one should love the product. But the inevitable groaning discovery is so worth it. https://youtu.be/JMieEnzb58c

That’s how I consume 90% of YouTube content these days. Have a pipeline to throw them into Plex and a custom agent to pull in data. Eliminates ads and can download them for offline watching if I so choose. This had more inherent benefit when I was traveling for work but still works great for me.

Yeah I download the stuff I really like off of youtube, because who knows what's going to get taken down for some reason. I never thought of throwing them on Plex, might be fun to set up a channel in there for randomly shuffling stuff from my favorite time-killer channels without having to go through youtube.

... now I want to rip down the entirety of TASVideosChannel, World of Longplays and GDQ. That's gonna cost me some space lol

Same, I download everything. Even if a copyright claim doesn't happen, sometimes YouTube itself will pull content for being "offensive" with zero explanation of what the channel possibly did wrong.

It is absolutely maddening that you can't have youtube play a user/channel's videos from oldest to newest. Any video that is cut in parts will play backwards from last to first. The uploader or you the viewer could make a playlist in the correct order, but why is the correct order not a default option???

you can even have it show all videos in an oldest->newest arrangement but if you click to actually watch them it's a newest->oldest playlist lol

Similarly jDownloader is my one of choice as it will also rip the audio as a separate stream so if you have a music playlist you get MP3s/M4as which of course Plex deals with if listening for audio at the export folder.

iirc you can pass a flag to ytdl to do the mp3 thing or the like, but it’s a bit video dependent. Also you need ffmpeg installed so that makes things a bit weird for Windows folks. I’ll have to give jdownloader a look the next time I need some music.

In a related matter, remember all those downloaded apps that used to be popular for Firefox/Chrome that somehow made downloads better? What was the deal with that? I’m fairly sure they weren’t viruses as the one I used, name escapes me, was pretty ubiquitous.

Similarly on Linux I learned that instead of clicking the download link, I should copy the URL and run "wget -c http://example.com/goatse.tgz" in a terminal instead. If it ever fails, just re-run, it'll continue where it left off.

This was back when "downloading Linux ISOs" actually meant downloading Linux ISOs, and I'd fire off a 600MB download before going to sleep and hope it got pretty far before the modem disconnected.

lol, when I was a PC sales dude it was in the Rambus period.
Intel released a series of motherboards for it and no one bought them, so they decided to plonk an adapter on them so you could use PC133 RAM, but they didn't work properly and we got tons and tons of returns.
Fun fact: In both the (largest) PC retailers in my city we used to have a '3 dot' policy, so if a part came back they'd put a dot on it using a marker pen, then stick it back on the shelves, if a part had 3 dots we sent it back to the manufacturer.

I'd honestly say that's a perfectly valid policy as long as it was sold at a discount if used. When I was a retail manager, I saw toooons of returns where people claimed a part was defective when it wasn't even the right kind of part for their system or where they were clearly (sometimes even admittedly) using the store's return policy as a free rental period

Someone once gave me their old Pentium 4 machine, which would have been a nice upgrade for me. Inside it had two of these and I didn't look close enough to realize they're just blanks. They had in fact taken the RAM out because that stuff was so expensive, and when I looked up how much it would cost to replace I just got rid of the machine

Oh no they went back on sale as new :v:
It was basically because of what you said though, manufacturers charged us if the part worked and when you're dealing with AMD K6 2 CPUs that need jumpers and poo poo setting up it was easier to just sell them again.
I didn't agree with it but can understand I guess.

We used to get daily RAM prices as well, they were unique and like stocks and shares. we'd get daily prices from the far east and the trick was to buy cheap, hold the stock and sell it when prices rose.
Man, they were some good times - I enjoyed it as I dealt mainly with corporate clients like I sold 400 PCs to the fire service that had to run DOS, they were good customers

Goddamn, that's cold.

I'm only familiar with Rambus because I worked at a place that did computer recycling/refurbishing and we had a handful of Rambus machines come through. I built a couple and they were fine, but the whole must-have-matched-sticks-or-terminators thing was weird. That was around when DDR2 was the current standard and most of the machines we handled were DDR1, and the Rambus was a weird oddity.

Got my Tower of Power 90% working.

Got the CD player and tape player last weekend. The tape player works fine, the CD player however needed some work.

First off the belt needs to be replaced for closing the tray, which I will order soon. The other issue was each time the CD player would try to seek, there was a nasty gear noise.

I pulled the lid off it and had a look. The issue was the guide rails that the laser head moves on were gummed up, and the toothed rail that the allows the head move from the motor goes into a kinda fail safe that allows the motor to spin without chewing the hell out of the plastic gears or teeth.

A good clean down and a little bit of lithium grease and all is well.

Next up is working out how to properly balance a tone arm on a record player so I can add that to this tower. Maybe get a proper hi fi unit as well as everything isn't resting on top of the amp.

Rambus was ridiculously good for the time but just too expensive, I had it in the very first gen of Pentium 4, I remember it was 1.4ghz CPU which was a big deal at the time, the motherboard was all Intel and really were good quality, but none of the OEM companies really got on board with it, honestly the whole genius plan by Intel to put normal DRAM slots on RAMBUS boards killed the whole thing as it was just super confusing and none of that poo poo really worked properly.
The blanking slots were just an added frustration as the concept was new and unique.
I actually ended up getting that lot very cheap as it was something that came in as a return (the motherboard, CPU and RAM) and I knew it would work with blanking slots filled, and it did :v:
