If someone says it one more time I'm having Florina show up as a corpse. I'm not even kidding, I was pissed off with people doing that shit back in 2010, and I'm not dealing with it now in 2016.

That's not a slow stomp, that's a kill stomp, the implication is supposed to be Amuro's unborn baby projected a barrier to protect him. I think. It's not clear tbh.

I don't see anything in that sequence even remotely implying that the fetus intervened. Or a reason why it would be necessary for a luna titanium unit to survive some blunt trauma to be honest. One of the pages has the Nightingale's foot smash down on the Hi-Nu's arm and all it does is crack the armor and break off some minor flecks of it. The Nightingale is big, but it's also so chunky it doesn't have a lot of limb maneuverability and can't really get a massive amount of momentum in it's kicks. It probably wouldn't do much good, even if it could, since one of the selling points of luna titanium is it's hardiness against physical assault.

i read that as being a gently caress you, not a serious attempt at killing amuro. the nightingale has so many freaking weapons and char knows how to kill a mobile suit pilot. it's one of the very few things he can do well, after all.

Having finally tracked down the g-rec movies I have to say I'm impressed at them losing 10 minutes of screen time while covering all the same ground and ending up significantly easier to follow because they actually take the time to establish plot points rather than being show don't tell to a fault.

I wrote a feature on the legacy of Gundam as science fiction television, reflected in current series The Expanse. Just as a note, Ramba Ral doesn't kiss his wife goodbye... because he and Crowley Hamon aren't married (except maybe common law). It was kind of a Thing that they were in a strongly implied sexual relationship despite being an unmarried couple.

But that's basically nitpicking to compete in Gundam trivia contests. It's a good article.

Yeah, thought that might be the case. "Kiss his wife" gets the audience in the right frame of mind a lot better than going into the details, especially when you're trying to keep things snappy.

This ruled, there's some beautiful writing in it with how you tie the shows and their philosophies together. You should be proud of yourself, you really nailed it.

Let me know if there's some place to get the perspective from the other side, I'd love to see what other Expanse fans think.

EDIT: I feel like you picked the wrong video for the Char's Counterattack segment, since it's kinda showing the ending and all.

All embedded stuff came from the site’s editor, I can only claim responsibility for the main body text.

And I’d love to see the same. Sharing it around my networks has mostly been feedback from anime fans newly curious about The Expanse, rather than the other way around.

... huh, I just realised that in accordance with the faction's costume and mechanical design being a fusion of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan (which is why the Dom, for instance, is a stylised kendoka), the Zeon monoeye is quite likely to be inspired by the sun circle of the Japanese flag.

Gaius Marius

That's quite a stretch. The flag is more associated with imperial japan outside japan not inside. Even the rising sun flag is just their naval jack.

I think mobile suit breakdown touched on the monoeye inspiration but i dont recall it necessarily being the sun circle.

Also, one of the early episodes of MSB tries to figure out when gundam 0079 was taking place. They narrow it down using the ep where Garma bites the farm to conclude that events take place in May, as opposed to the canonical september. And that sort of works in my head as well. It would also tighten up the OYW and "let things cook" and "for pieces to move". This also means Odessa is fought in the summer. This is unintentionally supported by IGLOO where that battle looks like southern Ukraine during a hot summer. This also means that Zeon's invasion on Earth basically collapses a lot quicker. It also explains why we see so little federation naval presense in Dublin. I read somewhere that the Salamis and Magellan could also function as surface ships. This means the feddies hauled all of the surface fleet to jaburo to pack them with rockets and send these ships to space as opposed to building new ships. Having gundams events take place earlier also allows other events to flow better and actually gives time for things things like the federation building a large mobile suit force to actually seem feasable.

It is frustrating when I can't even enjoy things because the owner is a Tradcath who thinks that telling people to not be a poo poo infringes on their rights (unless it's someone who's LGBT+), and the place regularly tolerates people attacking women for being women and harassing jewish players about the protocols of the elders of zion and why it's true and why Israel keeps it a secret. Naturally all of these people played Zeon.

You won't get it. They talked about that as a factor for some suit designs, but the Dom, for example, was primarily based on Kendo gear.

(That said, MSB does tend to have extensive citations on the pages for episodes, and they say when it's "We saw an interview saying..." and when they're just guessing based on available evidence on the general climate of the time.)

The entire plot of Zeta was about the AEUG - who were composed primarily of members of the Federation - rising up to bash the fascist Titans into the dust, and one of the most important climaxes of the show was Dakar, where the Federation government ultimately decided to side with the AEUG and condemn the Titans.

I think the lesson of UC is that the further humans get from Earth the worse they get. The colonies couldn’t escape fascism and totalitarianism and once you get to Jupiter things just get worse. God knows what kind of sick degenerates were hanging out by Neptune.
