I saw the Obama "real Presidents don't bow" one a lot and if I remember right it was him meeting the Saudis because a lot of the counter memes showed W Bush holding hands and kissing them and poo poo. It's a dumb thing to get worked about either way so I just threw it on the tan suit and lapel pin pile of poo poo that only crazy people loving worry about. My step mom sent me a few FW>FW>FW links before she died of the ones where Obama pledged allegiance with the wrong hand, didn't stand for the pledge and a few others that a quick visit to Snopes would have easily put to bed. I wonder sometimes where she and my dad might have fallen on the MAGA Trump poo poo and honestly think it's best they didn't live long enough for me to find out. They passed within 6 months of each other and never got to witness Obama's Socialist Muslim Takeover. I know my Dad would have been all in on the anti BLM protests and big on sucking off cops since he hoarded guns waiting for a race war, worshiped authority and strongly disliked "those people". I had to sell or give away a lot of his firearms after he died. His wife was more of a "new to the internet" so everything she read was true and "things are tradition for a reason so don't question things" type that was all in on empty platitudes, religious rites, supporting the troops and how if you just worked hard you'll make tons of money.

It's been said before but a solid 40%+ of the American electorate doesn't understand that the US is an empire which regularly shakes down its allies and uses its military power to ensure it gets very favorable access to scarce resources literally all the time. But it has found a way to do so with a friendly diplomatic facade couched in the language of freedom and human rights, which makes its behaviour much more accepted and less resisted by the rest of the world than it otherwise might be. This pisses off said part of the American electorate to no end, as they demand the US go full mask off and behave like a cartoon villain in its dealings with the rest of the world. Very likely achieving lesser results in the process. And then there's a part of the US electorate which gets this perfectly but wants the US to behave like cartoon villains anyway, because as also has been said before, the cruelty is the point. Ofcourse, a big part of this feeling of not actually being on top comes from the fact that these people don't really reap any of the rewards from the US being top dog, because the US elite has turned the machinations of empire inwards upon the metropole a long time ago. It reminds me of the dumb as poo poo but ever prevalent argument from Americans back in the 2003-2007 period along the lines of "if your claim that the US invaded Iraq for oil is true, how come my gas prices are still so high?". Which is just lack_of_class_consciousness.txt as hell. Orange Devil fucked around with this message at 15:48 on Feb 15, 2021 |

Can't upload images, but I've been seeing a big uptick in fwd:fwd:fwd type rants about how trans HS athletes are robbing cis women of their hard earned scholarships by competing in women only events. The thesis seems to be that high school age trans athletes haven't been on hormones long enough for their performance to be comparable to their cisgender counterparts. They claim that this then puts the cisgender athletes at an unfair disadvantage. Apparently there was some lawsuit about this some time ago, and I still see photos of this frowning girl standing on a track with a caption of how her college dreams were dashed because of liberal laws or somthing or other. Why is there an upsurge of this recently? How much of an advantage could a HS trans athlete have to the extent that it's an issue? I would have figured if trans athletes in this scenario really had such an unfair advantage, then the vast majority of college educated trans people would have had their education paid for by athletic scholarships but I'm assuming this isn't the case.

If you have to ask then of course it’s bullshit. They get their panties in a twist because of some stupid Times article that wasn’t even right and then of course every woman in Highschool is getting their dreams crushed by a Trans person.

What did the article get wrong? Obviously TERFs are setting up a strawman but I'm curious about the actual reality of the situation. I'm assuming also that boomers have a much bigger problem with this than most of the athletes themselves but I don't know how transphobic your typical HS girls track team really is either.

The non-binary and overlapping natures of sex and gender and the human rights of all people to compete in sports that have historically been very sexist is a deeply complex issue which will probably see multiple forms of resolution but yeah none of them are interested in that and are just using it as a blunt instrument to hammer trans and intersex rights because you can claim to be about fairness rather than being a bigot as long as nobody looks too hard.

It mostly came down to the person just wanting to win by becoming a woman. Ya know, not that she wanted to be a woman to begin with. They never give a poo poo about the person just that their very special child wouldn’t get a scholarship they would totally have gotten if not for that pesky Trans person.

In the not too distant future, presidential and political debates will degenerate into Springer episodes where one nerdy person explains policy issues, the other calls him a commie, starts a fight and the studio audience chants "USA! USA! USA!" instead of "Jerry! Jerry!" "USA! USA! USA!" is basically a foreign policy. Near as I can tell from the FW>FW>FW> emails. A century from now, it'll just be a fight to the death. Remember Guilliani's "trial by combat" remark? Semi unrelated, I went to a Pearl Jam concert in Jacksonville, FL and a group of about 5 very drunk rednecks sitting a few rows in front of us tried to get a "USA" chant going after "Even Flow" or "Jeremy" or whatever the hit was. Surprised it didn't catch, tbh, and they tried twice. It was like watching someone futilely trying to start The Wave at a football game. My friend pointed to them both times, turned to me and asked "what does that even mean?" Indeed. I think it just means "good thing good, therefore 'USA'", since the USA is good, which leads to weird poo poo like Trump dry humping a U.S. Flag and litmus tests like mandatory lapel pins for politicians or standing for the anthem. So weird.

Right. To emphasize, I'm not trying to be disingenuous here, I'm genuinely curious about the issue. You brought up another good point, intersex and nonbinary people, if they want to compete who do we group them with? Should it all be coed? Where do the actual HS athletes that compete among them stand on the issue? The parallel I've seen is discrimination in sports against minorities who were good at that particular sport but there were various why they couldn't compete with white people.

Just look at track and field stats and such for the difference between male and female competitors. It honestly seems like one area where there is no good answer. All kids deserve to play, but for a child just starting their transition, it would for instance not be fair to take a young ftm person and just dump them onto the varsity boys sprinting team and have them compete against people that are literally a whole second or more faster and just get smoked every time. It seems like it would have to be based on all the studies of how hormone therapy impacts that kind of performance, but I am not smart enough to know the answer. Panfilo posted:I've heard some claim "just have a third category and let them compete there" but I bet as soon as funding gets properly distributed across all three "categories" they'll throw a huge shitfit about how liberals are gutting funding for women's sports. Alternatively they'll likely try to have the public institution wither on the vine by boycotting participation (like how a lot of white families pulled their kids out of public schools when they became racially integrated). What sucks is that actually finding a solution that satisfies everyone requires all parties to be operating in good faith, and anti-trans people don't even begin to want to do that. They aren't looking at it from the angle of "well trans kids should certainly be able to compete in sports but there are certain accommodations and caveats that should be made in some situations." They start at "trans people are fake and these kids need therapy to make them 'normal' again," and that informs everything they do and say. Kinda makes it useless to try to cater to them, which makes them yell all the louder when they aren't catered to.

It's right there in their self appointed label and reflected in the music they listen to and movies they watch. They want things to always be the same and always need an enemy that's trying to change things. Back in the day it was race mixing, gays, teaching evolution, draft dodgers, weed, women's rights... They can't pick on that poo poo anymore because the vast majority of the country is fine with it and always has to DRAG these people kicking and screaming into a new decade/era. I haven't seen a "MAN PLUS WOMAN = MARRIAGE" bumper sticker in some time now but they were ubiquitous for a good while. Transgender people are the new frontier for them that upsets their Biblical apple cart, which is aided a lot by how few people fall into that category. They like to pick on the weak and the powerless. Since anything "new" is scary and always an affront to the word of God, having to adjust their pronouns in normal conversation is just a bridge too far. Nothing has changed or can every be different from a book written and selectively read 2000 years ago that already solved everything.

For what it's worth, the scientific consensus on transgender athletes (dis)advantages in sports is that it's still unclear (not a lot of cases to study to begin with). There also seems to be a variation depending on the sport (as a matter of fact transgender athletes might be disadvantaged compared to their cisgendered competitors in some sports, such as women's gymnastics), and depending on the age of the athlete. The younger an athlete was when they transitioned, the smaller the differences seem to be with the performance of their cisgendered competitors. On top of that, as I recall the transgender athletes who did compete in Olympics (not that there's many of them) performed pretty much as expected: average. In any event I doubt the people forwarding these e-mails are particularly concerned with the fairness and integrity of the sport... It just "feels" unfair and that's what matters the most to them.

There was a big controversy recently because such a woman won lots of competitions; should she be disqualified because she had an (all-"natural") chemical advantage? How is that different from someone having genes for more efficient respiration, or blood cell production, or balance/strength/stamina, or whatever else?
