D-Pad was in the Texpol thread whining about how his wife won’t let him buy a bunch of prepper gear or several guns to defend their generator so that he can live out his mad max fantasy. Just so everyone knows who they’re dealing with.

I know this is a few pages ago, and yes most preppers/gun-nuts are dorks with murder fantasies, but the generator thing is a legit concern in a disaster situation.

A coworker of mine grew up in Sadam Hussein’s Iraq. His family had a generator due to the frequent blackouts. Anyway, one day a couple guys rolled up with AK’s, sprayed the house as a warning, and then took off with their generator.

Somebody else in the thread posted about getting his door kicked in for his generator after Ike. I said "gun" though so that makes me a crazy person who just wants to shoot people.

There is a pretty huge difference between the US, ever at its worst, and Saddam Hussein-era Iraq. This is super disingenuous.

And the guy who talked about getting his door kicked in also said, very clearly, that he didn't have to shoot anyone they left because he was home. Most thefts like that tend to depend on you not being home, not you not being armed lmao.

If only he'd had a gun, he could avoided the shame of losing his generator by getting completely murdered first

I think he was making the point that if the US ever descended in to Saddam Hussein-era Iraq levels of social breakdown he would need to defend himself.

Preppers are all doing this because they think things are going to get apocalyptically bad.

However, once you buy a gun for that reason you need to decide if you are willing to kill and/or die to defend a generator.

No, he was saying it because Texas lost power for a few days due to the polar vortex. It was absolutely a huge tragedy and a failure of our infrastructure and needs to be addressed, but it was not a Mad Max scenario.

edit: oh the other guy. I guess, maybe? We're quite a bit away from that though, even as bad as things are.

I agree that we are really far away from that scenario but I think that's the scenario that preppers have in mind then they are fantasizing about social breakdown.

I don't see how having a gun in the house would stop a truck full of guys with guns from taking your generator, they're not relying on people not being home, that's why they have the guns. They don't care if you're home, they will shoot you, so that you will be too dead to resist them taking your generator. That is now their generator. It was always going to be their generator, unless you have more people than them.

Community > guns yet again.

D-Pad, what are your neighbors like? Do you really expect they'd kill you for your stuff in the event of a disaster instead of, say, sharing supplies with you? If so, I hope you're making plans to move.

Duh that's why you need 15 guns, so you're more powerful than 10 people with one gun each.
