From my experience, you can get a regular bootleg Spider-Man for the same price. I know because I grew up poor and had a Spider-Man that could shoot web, only the paint was wonky and the plastic was cheaper than you'd expect. Otherwise it was a lot like the real thing. The same goes for a bunch of Transformers toys I had. When parents get an extremely lazy soldier toy like that painted as a popular property, it's either because they don't care enough, or the child doesn't care enough.

Don't feel sad about it. Take it from a Latin American, everyone here grows up with nothing but bootleg upon bootleg, and we can look back on it and laugh. As a kid you won't notice the difference much, and as an adult, they end up having sentimental value and are just funny in general. I love the few stupid bootlegs I still have left (most were taken by my niece, sadly) and I try taking pics of the new bootlegs I find whenever I leave home, and there's always more to find.

My cousins and friends had a combination of bootlegs and the actual deal. We didn't give two shits and were only interested in throwing the Ninja Turtles from a second floor (they had parachutes!!), who cares if Donatello had pristine details and Michelangelo's mask paint was peeling off it was fun.

god I'm signed up for the Black Cat Mystery book club because I like having access to a ton of old-rear end pulp novels (it's how I discovered Rufus King!) but most of the covers are just. Absolutely atrocious. The loving worst. There's some where there's actual art, or even just unobjectionable art, but there's also a lot that look like that horrible Kindle cover. I have never actually looked into it but sometimes I get the vibe that most of Wildside Press is just John Betancourt himself, scanning in old magazines and running them through OCR software before trying to make a cover in GIMP with whatever images he happens to have on hand. Like, for a while, he was straight-up selling used paperbacks from his personal library through the Wildside Press website. Which is only tangentially related to bootlegs, but it's very funny to get an official promotional email from a book publisher that says "hey does anyone want my old books".
