In upsides the liberals got 5.49% of the votes last election, and with a minimum for seats being 4% this gamble is pretty likely the end of the party.

I highly doubt Liberalerna has any path back to relevance once that happens, the only thing they've had going for them in the last three elections is basically inertia. The real fear is of course that they actually wind up gaining support as a more socially acceptable way to vote for a fascist coalition, but I choose to not believe and not think too hard about that.

So apparently youth unemployment is at 17% in the EU (and this with the usual fudging of the unemployment numbers). We're looking at another 'lost generation' that will receive little notice and support. however this article from DW has a suggestion for all those who are burden by stress, anxiety, and never ending application sending: just do a big stunt broadcasting your desperation and precarity! [or harrass upper management on twitter]

https://www.dw.com/en/unemployed-graduates-fear-being-europes-lost-covid-19-generation/a-57018647

quote:

Esther Jardim from London, who graduated in 2009 during the global financial crisis, sympathizes with pandemic graduates. Looking back at her own story, she also sees upsides to graduating during an economic slump.

When, during the aftermath of the global financial crisis, Esther Jardim received a job rejection on Christmas Eve 2010, she decided to do something radical.

A sandwich board tied to her chest, she walked up and down London's business district of High Holborn. "2.1 Warwick Politics Graduate, 4 A levels, 3 Internships, 2 many months out of work, Looking for just 1 job," the sign read.

The stunt landed her about 30 interviews and got her her dream job at a big PR agency in the UK. The worries of pandemic graduates resonate with Jardim. At the same time, she also sees unique opportunities that job-seekers have today.

Thanks to social media, sandwich board PR stunts are no longer necessary to catch the attention of sought-after employers.

"Graduates can harness the ability to connect and reach out to people. Social media really took down barriers. You can send senior people in the company a message. They will reply," she told DW.

Looking back at her challenging job start, Jardim is grateful for what she went through 10 years ago. "It forced me to develop a sense of resilience early on in my career. I learned to pick myself up and dust myself off," she said.

It's this. If you don't have a job it's because yer folks didn't work hard enough. And even as the myth of meritocracy grows ever more transparent still people believe it like their life depends on the lie.

Madrid votes center right which means that the fascists get to come out and play

quote:

People’s party wins Madrid snap election but fails to get majority

Isabel Díaz Ayuso’s conservatives take 65 of 136 seats and will need support of far-right Vox party

...
The Socialist party of the prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, suffered a bruising night that was compounded by the news that his former coalition partner, the Unidas Podemos leader Pablo Iglesias, was leaving Spanish politics. Not only did the Socialists slump from 37 seats to 24, they were also pipped to second place by the leftwing regional Más Madrid party, which also took 24 seats but which attracted a fractionally higher share of the vote.

Despite winning 13 seats – just one more seat than in 2019 – Vox is now guaranteed a pivotal role in Madrid politics. The far-left, anti-austerity Unidas Podemos won 10 seats – three more than last time – and came in fifth. But, as the count neared its end, Iglesias, who had resigned as a deputy prime minister in the coalition government to run in the regional election, announced he was leaving Spanish politics.
...
The electoral campaign was littered with recriminations and accusations, and two of the candidates – including Ayuso – received death threats.

Last month Iglesias walked out of a TV debate after Vox’s candidate, Rocío Monasterio, tried to cast doubt on the death threat he and his family had received along with four assault rifle bullets.

Ayuso had seized on Iglesias’s candidacy to suggest Tuesday’s poll was a choice between “communism and freedom”, while Vox has been criticised for stigmatising unaccompanied migrant children in its election posters.

To show exactly how duplicitous the Social Democrats are, here's a direct quote from now-PM Mette Frederiksen in 2015 when refugees were arriving in droves from Syria: "The time when you could get away with tokenism and proposals for camps in Kenya, immediately slamming the brakes and quick fixes, is over." Then they immediately voted for robbing refugees of their cash and valuables, and now here we are. Although they did scrap the previous government's plans for a billion-kroner camp on a small island, currently under biological quarantine as a defunct animal disease research facility, where the only mainland connection is a ferry literally named Virus.

Funny thing is the minister responsible for the Rwanda project is himself the child of an Ehtiopian refugee. He has also jumped party three times, starting out as a member of the Communist Party (M/L), then the Unity List (which began as a collection of various revolutionary socialist parties), then the Socialist People's Party (whose founder was a CIA informant lol), and then finally the Social Democrats, after he failed to establish himself in either of the others.

All the Danish right-wing parties and the governing Social Democrats (but I repeat myself) in parliament just basically threatened freedom of research by passing a resolution openly accusing universities of pushing politics masquerading as science. The resolution was proposed by Morten Messerschmidt, a convicted racist currently under police investigation for fraud with EU funds, and sociologist Henrik Dahl, who insisted he was a reasonable center-leftist until he ran for the libertarian party, his latest grift was selling anti-idpol lapel pins.

Sweden’s government faces no-confidence vote over rental laws

Sweden's government is at risk of collapsing on Monday, with a no-confidence vote taking place that could force snap elections.

Heading into the vote on Monday, three scenarios are on the table: Prime Minister Stefan Löfven could simply resign, a snap election could be triggered before next year’s general election or some form of political comprise could be reached — saving the Social Democrat and Green Party coalition minority
government at the last minute.

Despite Covid-19 restrictions still being in force, all 349 members of parliament have been called in for the 10:00 am (0800 GMT) vote on the no-confidence motion, filed on Thursday by the far-right Sweden Democrats.

The Sweden Democrats filed the motion after the Left Party, which has propped up the government, announced it was planning to seek support for such a motion itself in protest against a government project to ease rent controls, denouncing the move as an attack on the Swedish social model.

The conservative Moderate Party and the Christian Democrats have also announced their support for the move.

If defeated, Löfven would go down as the first Swedish head of government to be defeated in a vote of no confidence.

“For a long time it looked like the minority government would make it until the end of the term, but the built-in divisions in the government’s base have finally become too big,” political commentator Mats Knutson told public broadcaster SVT.

If voted out, Löfven would have a week to either announce a snap election or resign, leaving it up to speaker of parliament Andreas Norlen to open negotiations with the parties to find a new prime minister, which analysts note could end up being Löfven again.

The political crisis was triggered by a project, which is still in its preliminary stages, to reform the country’s rent controls and potentially opening the door for landlords to freely set rents for newly constructed apartments. Among the left the proposal has been seen as being at odds with the Swedish
social model and a threat to tenants.

To overthrow the government, a strict absolute majority of 175 votes out of the 349 parliamentary seats is needed. Together, the four parties have 181 seats. Last-ditch efforts to appease the Left Party, which holds 27 seats, have been in vain.

An offer to invite stakeholders in the rental market for negotiations was dismissed as “not serious and political theatre aimed at stalling the process”, by Left Party leader Nooshi Dadgostar
