Shocked I tell you

Random question that might not be answerable until I find out for myself tomorrow:
Is it possible to have a room cut into the rock, but left with bare rock walls? (i.e. how the walls initially are when minions hollow-out the room) I wouldn't mind having my inner sanctum having jagged-looking rock walls, while the rest of the base has regular walls

That would be a bit of a bummer for your inner sanctum. As Each Evil Genius has a unique look to theirs.

Edit: See you guys tomorrow morning when it unlocks.

Oh, I didn't realise that! Hmm, well maybe another important room then, perhaps

SweetBro posted:

Assuming the building mechanics are identical to the first game, this would not be possible as you declare the room type when you give the dig order.

Are you able to delete existing rooms, if you know? And if so, do they fill up with earth again, or stay hollowed-out? Ah well, I'll try it out later on when I get it installed - hopefully it's something I can work into my lair, but it's not the end of the world if not

In Evil Genius 1 you could delete rooms as long as they didn't have another room connecting to them. iirc it just filled in the area with dirt. Not sure how Evil Genius 2 is gonna handle it. Probs best to wait till tomorrow and test once the game unlocks.

I hope that they have fixed room placement by alot. In the first game, you cant delete connecting rooms if the room it leads too can't be accessed without that room. Also same rooms build next to each other merge into a bigger room automatically. Aka your corridor that connects all rooms is basically undeletable unless you delete every single room connecting to it.

Wouldn't the ability to render rooms completely inaccessible be massively exploitable?

I seem to remember agents getting into blocked off spaces by lifting up floor tiles and going under walls and objects, but it's been so long since I played EG1 it's entirely possible I've remembered that from a different game.

But deleting rooms will probably be easier as your workers dig out rooms tile-by-tile now instead of blasting the entire space open in one go, so you could probably remove individual tiles that way too

Everything reviewers are saying they dislike about the game screams "I don't know how to manage heat".

Or that heat is way to high, but its games journalism, I expect its the former.

The only review that concerned me was the RPS review that stated thr economy was kind of hosed

Based on what I'm seeing from Nivalrius's stream, yeah economy does seem kinda hosed. But it's propped up pretty well by side story and objective goals which give you a button that releases cash money dollars.

Honestly if the pacing is a little slow that's something that can be fixed, but its evil genius, half the fun is watching the dumb animations they make and i'd never get a chance if they sped it up too much.

:agreed:

I've seen a stream where the player kept making new criminal networks (3 workers), checking the cash schemes, and then blowing up the network because the schemes were small potatoes because guess what you only get small potato schemes on level 1 criminal networks.

He was constantly under a worker shortage :v:

E: it's some hours too early of course, but the plan I'll go with is to have a lot of networks around the globe and have a lot of long schemes running. Low worker attrition, making it up by volume.

I know I've definitely sat on the "kidnap a maid" step of the tutorial for a bit just to get a bunch of starter cash in the original.

Most of the values in the original were easily editable by just opening the correct files with a text editor so I cheated myself a lot of money and more minions after my first run, those systems weren't very good

in the original you could just type “humanzee” to activate cheat mode and give yourself as much cash and as many minions as you wanted, i played very little of that game without that mode on.

Won't that also get tons of people pissed at you.

Also Schemes don't drop all the money from stealing at the very end I think, it actually comes over the course of the scheme.

Steam countdown hit zero and still no unlock. I'm guessing the actual time is related to the launch stream they're running on youtube in about 20 minutes from this post.

So, to pass the time, assuming the game is moddable, what would you like to see? For myself, I'd like a Hank Scorpio boss. Just chill, treating the minions nicely, get everyone enthused for flamethrowers and world domination.

If I've watched quite a lot of streamers play the beginning of the game but don't have much experience with the game, is it worth doing the tutorial? It seems like it puts stuff like generators and safes in... less than safe places.

Play the tutorial to make sure you haven't missed out on any important game mechanics, then start over again with a sane layout. Or maniacally insane, depending on your style of villainy.
