I was playing the tutorial introduction bit and was really enjoying myself until it crashed :(. Before it crashed I was doing rather well, but I'm suprised at how much power everthing uses. I had a large room full of generators and it wasn't enough to power what I assumed was just a small base. I think that later on I'll get some more powerful and more effeciently sized generators that will solve this problem.
Another thing that happened was that I sold a bunch of casino junk but I didn't have enough space in the vault to store the money, meaning that I think that money was lost. Oops!

Waltzing Along posted:

Did you need so many power generators in the original? I feel like I am building a lot.
Eventually you would want a big stack of nuclear power, but up front it was much more generous because there are a ton of default tier items that drain power now which did not in EG1, and EG2 generators don't seem quite as generous as they appear.

In EG1 power generators were both 4x4 (5x5?) items with more generous power supply than EG2, 15 and 35 for nuclear. While in EG2, basic power is +10, and nuclear is +20 so far as I saw in streamer footage (I would not be surprised if Tier 4 Fusion is only +30). Now, you would THINK it would be more efficient overall on space because of the smaller overall sizes of the generators in EG2, but your demand is so much higher now.

Also, in EG1 you could stretch real far early on with only a few generators because usually if it takes power, it is either plot essential or a superior version of your basics.

In EG1, the first two infirmary items were zero power drain but staffed, and the endgame autodoc is 10 drain. Stuff that gives you global money boosts were 15 drain. While most of your essentials were free, and even 3 drain was "A lot" on average.

In EG2, the default infirmary item is 10 drain. Prison cells take 5 power instead of zero, mess halls take power, your only staff room item by default is a huge $15,000 TV and sofa setup that drains power instead of ping pong tables. You need a bunch more security consoles because they can only handle a few cameras each instead of tying your whole camera network to one guy, etc.

So no, you are not crazy. In EG2 you need more power out the starting gate, and need to keep filling out your power supply compared to EG1 (Oh and hard difficulty apparently gives you less power)

If anyone is having power issues keep in mind that doors and some decor use power. If you're putting a door on every room you create you could be burning a dozen or more power just on useless doors.

Seems like this is the only thing so far that's strictly worse than the first game. It was ctrl+tag to tag the whole squad, right? Now you have to do each one.

I am Fat Man, hear me roar!

Just build a big power place at the start. One of the rooms lets you literally fill back in dirt, so downsizing/rearranging afterwards is easy. Also regarding layout/space, one of the tier 2 research tasks allows construction of staircases between levels , which should help if you need the space. I've not yet got it yet, so I don't know if there's additional gating behind it, but it seems easy to reach. Similarly, the digging through harder rock research is similarly at tier 1 or 2, and I grabbed this which helped make things a bit neater.

Regarding schemes, the research for level 2 outposts is only in the second tier so it should be easy to reach. I've opted for a couple of other research tasks first, but it's probably the next I'll do so the roadmap to better schemes seems pretty quick.

Anyway, game unlocked 1am, played til 4, begrudgingly woke up at 9 for work. Clinging to coffee until I can play it more tonight. Game is good, easter and my local uber-lockdown is perfectly timed for me to binge this.

I'm playing as Emma, she owns. Went through the tutorial to the point of having all minion types unlocked, and now up to recruiting a henchman and called it there. I shoved all my base around one side of the starting island I picked, so I might do some wholesale reworking of it once I get more settled and stronger cashflow.

I tried, and couldn't get it to work. I'd love to hear that this is in, as it seems a big oversight. I hope it's something they'll patch in quickly, if not.

I lost my first game because the FOJ just kept sending AgentX and like 10 dudes at a time at me. I don't think I was generating a ton of heat or doing anything wrong I just could not recover fast enough.

What controls how fast minions replace? Why are minions deserting? How can you keep the enemy snowball from just keeping you from working on progress?

There's an easy trap to fall into of looking at minion counts on the missions and thinking "yeah, no biggie, they're free" but when you get into level 2 missions costing 5-10 minions at once that is up to 5 minutes for them to replenish and you can start to run low really fast. I think the smart play is definitely to spread out with a ton of level 1 networks, set up the 30 min low income missions and slowly build from there. It doesn't seem like much but that slowly building income makes a big difference.

Managed to play an hour or so when it went live.

Absolutely loved the vibe. Super annoyed that it wants me to build rooms that are super massive to hold like 1 4x4 object. Jokes on them though if you start the construction then edit the room after it 100% happy.

I kinda like how minions that go to the world stage don't return, it's a bit less pressure that after a heist or scheme i dont have to go back and recover the remaining minions before they die.

Really keen to head back and play a huge amount after work

Oh no
I never played the first game, and I have some questions.

Is there any way to tell if you don’t have enough beds, dining tables, and similar stuff other than watching the bubbles over minion's heads?

With buildings that have a mode (like security desks and baccarat tables) do you have to set the mode?

Is there any action I can take to get weapon racks to load?

I certainly dont have deep-seated issues involving birthdays.
My complaint thus far is: Chill the gently caress out agents.

Its not that they're dangerous... the game is literally telling me when they're coming and what types, but the problem is by that token they have to be a clear and present danger so they literally rocket into my base and b-line straight to the incriminating poo poo... I liked the old game where they'd wander around in all the spaces like hapless dolts till they spotted something. Now they're fully chill-less and it means they're more predictable AND less interesting overall. I preferred when they'd be constantly coming but less individually threatening.

The world map is really bad, someone said it a few pages ago but it's really hard to see at a glance if you're working on something in that region. It's also super unclear to me why sometimes the missions complete in a few seconds and other times not? I just think all the info on that screen is pretty poorly conveyed.

Other than that though, this is fantastic. I have a bit of tutorial fatigue so I think at this point I'm going to start a new game without it. What was the deal with having to get minions back in EG1? Someone mentioned it already but the multiple confirmation prompts saying 'YOU WON'T GET THIS MINION BACK' made me chuckle.

The way it typically worked in EG1 for me was that I'd do a mission, completely forget that the minions were assigned to a region, then the agent would pop up in the region and kill all my guys because the "hide" stance only lasted for like a minute.

Any tips about difficulty? I got through the tutorial on medium, kinda wondering if I should quickly restart on Hard to design things properly.

the difficulty ramps up once you start getting hit by heist teams and actual agents instead of no-brain investigators. Also, once you get your crime syndicates rolling, you will absolutely burn through minions keeping everything going. This game turns into much more of a platespinner once you really get going.

Grand Fromage posted:

Anyone figure out what things in your base draw heat? Like can I put a bed/food/breakroom kind of deal right off the casino for my valets to chill, not connected to the main base, without it being suspicious?

The suspicion of investigators go up whenever they witness any kind of suspicious activity - I think it's any room but the casino, but it's also definitely less for a bunkroom than for your op center. It may also have to do with size, my first floor is basically Kitchen and Bunkroom, both mostly there so I can have double level 2 doors twice between my casino and the staircase. I moved everything else to the second floor once I unlocked it. Also you generate heat with the various agencies through your crime syndicates - I'm not sure if this is passive overtime or just a big bump whenever one goes into overheat.

deep dish peat moss posted:

Anyone found good ways to disorient investigators yet? The old EG1 trick of making a hallway to nowhere full of highly secure doors doesn't seem to be working but maybe I've just been unlucky

Speaking of which, having a first floor be 3/4's casino means you can just fill up with games, shows, and all the other stuff and run distract protocol on your first floor. It gets tougher if you actually want to start interrogating them for the extra intel, but you can trigger alarms and go after them on the casino floor that way (put some guard posts/advanced guard posts outside your stairwell so that you have guards waiting to subdue the investigators).

Thanks found it. It's actually a pretty easy system. Once all of it is unlocked Intruders should be much easier to deal with. Even being able to auto tag agent for distract if they go too far in certain places will be helpful.

Also Agents don't seem to find Staff Rooms, Barracks, or Mess Halls suspicious.

The quick 3 worker/3 minute money missions feel alright early on, but sidestorys start gobbling up minions rapidly and the natural replenishment rate won't cover it alongside the get rich quick schemes. Slow and steady income seems to be the way, and forking over the cash to erase heat. Intel seems to be the bottleneck on having too many 2nd rank criminal networks, even if you can handle the broadcasting load.

minion management seems like the big platespinner. My broadcast room is pretty big, and I have a bunch of intel generating machines as well. The issue comes with keeping enough workers to work them while still getting everything else I need done - you really have to manage your mininon numbers. On the + side, if you find that you weren't paying attention you can generate cash in your casino while waiting for workers to come back.
