Oh yeah definitely, it's on the same level as the "people died in their 40s" myth because people see "average life expectancy" and assume that it means "this is about the age at which people died" rather than the fact that there was a lot of infant death that brought down the average. In fact they're probably related since if you think people really did die at 40 then the idea that people married younger seems plausible.
