Doctor Jeep posted:i find it worrying that you found heroes in ttoi to be clear, I didn't find heroes in TTOI, and I have no reason to believe that I ever will, but considering Iannucci's liberal brainworms since Corbyn happened, I have every reason to believe that if he came back to it, he'd try his hardest to paint the equivalent of Kieth's Labour sympathetically e: the thing about The Thick Of It was that Iannucci just presented the politics as a backdrop to a government department as a dysfunctional office staffed by incompetents, and it never really commented on the fact that Blairism was pretty much Thatcherism in red it's end of history poo poo, like, the stuff they're coming out with is what it is, and they're contemptable fuckers and you shouldn't trust them but it never actually says, nah, we can do better, more progressive politics than this, because that's not the done thing really Venomous has issued a correction as of 17:22 on Apr 3, 2021 |

Iannucci has a pretty consistent politics of favoring Strong Decisive Men against people who are wheedling and indecisive and consensus building. It feels really heavy handed in Death of Stalin and I can only imagine that he'd just completely ignore the reality of Keith and have him played by his old standby of Pete Capaldi.

The more I read about Keir the more he seems like a Leslie Knope parody of a character trying to emulate Hillary Clinton https://twitter.com/jacobinmag/status/1378705806238040066 "bland managerial approach" is a great term that perfectly encapsulates and conveys so much horror

The 'elections are far away' argument was always nonsense because locals were always coming at this time when Starmer won and so he was immediately on a ticking clock to either establish an approach to local and regional government policy or acknowledge he didn't have any idea what to do except hope for the best in Westminster 5 years later. So here we are a year later and they're heading into the election with 'look Starmer is in charge now!' and 'oohh crimes getting a bit out of hand isn't it?'.

it’s funny because the right wing press usually starts ramping up the “crime is getting worse vote tories to lock ‘em up” before elections except they haven’t done it this time
