Like, the market just did not exist for non porn PC games in Japan in the 90s to the 00s.

The only VN I've read through and enjoyed was Vampire the Masquerade: Coteries of New York. It's well enough written and nails the setting. Also helps that your choices actually matter and there's some strategy involved since you have to keep the blood lust at bay. It's a shame the ending is rushed and not very satisfying. At least there's some replay value since you can't experience every scenario in one run and there's three characters to play as. Also, there's no horny if you ignore that fact that sucking blood is pretty horny.

Anime and superheroes and star trek and etc are all incredibly lame because if you're a nerd you basically can't escape them. I know way more about all 3 of them than I ever wished to. I don't like lots of things, but most of those things are easy to avoid just by not engaging with them. I'm happy that the people who love Twilight or Fifty Shades of Grey or whatever have those things that they love even though that stuff is not for me. I have no reason to hate any of it. But anime fans make me hate anime because they won't give me the luxury of just ignoring it.

But after years and years of Marvel seemingly taking over the popular media space, and boring nerds making their whole life based around the Marvel universe I pretty much can't stand them anymore. I agree with you, anime is pretty similar in my mind. If it weren't for the fandoms you could happily just ignore those things, but it's hard to ignore (at least online) when they're so rabid and weird about it. I will admit I watched The Boys recently though and that was dope. I even thought, hmm maybe I should look at the comic it's based on. But then I read one of them online and it was horrible cringey edgelord poo poo. I have no idea how they made that into such a good show but hats off to those TV writers.

Since you enjoyed that you should definitely check out the Grant Morrison run on Doom Patrol (issue #19-#63) that it was influenced by. Legitimately one of the greatest comics ever and a very different approach to superhero stories.
