i'm really glad that we've been able to stick with this to the point that interesting things are actually happening in the game! i'm especially appreciative of the players, who have all fully internalized that we probably still have a few years ahead of us. it's special and unique that we've been able to run with a full roster of players, since i think for most other SMAC PBEM games there are just 3 or 4 human-controlled factions and the rest are handed off to AI.

i had a dream about the game last night, the PBEM game specifically not just SMAC in general. in the dream Spartans landed a Plasma Impact Infantry unit on my western peninsula and sniped one of my bases!  also big thanks to Glorg for running things and everyone else for playing! i guess the last turn i actually posted about was... 2227? back in january???? anyways the current turn is 2236. i actually have a lot of video of my turns and i feel like i should do something with it. i was thinking that i can use those in lieu of in-game screenshots but the quality's kind of crap and the text looks bad so there's still some work to do there clearly. i do want to figure out a way to tell some stories that have happened over a longer series of turns, since i feel like some stuff is easier to keep track of that way rather than looking at incremental progress one turn at a time the most interesting things to happen on the Gaian side of things have been: - built my first thermal borehole, on one of perhaps three appropriately-flat squares on my entire continent. with the appropriate tech this produces 6 minerals and 6 energy, so it's good to build near a base and have a citizen work at it instead of a crawler.  - discovered the Ecological Engineering tech, which removes the mineral production cap i've been dealing with up until now. now all the mines i've been harvesting with supply crawlers are producing at full capacity! i believe there are 8 mines with crawlers in total -- numerous minerals!  - as a direct consequence of the above, all my bases have eco-damage now. this isn't necessarily a totally bad thing -- while i will probably get some fungal blooms and worm attacks, this apparently permanently increases the base's "clean" mineral limit, so it's good to have this happen a couple times before ever building a tree farm (which increases this limit further).  hard to read the text, but that base now has 13 eco-damage, which i think means that on a given turn there's a 13% of a fungal bloom and worm attack

I'll be in touch in-game re EcoEng tech, I don't think I have any tech you need but I do have a good energy credit stockpile. re screenshot/recording quality: are you using the ini settings like i posted aeons ago? I'll be in touch in-game re EcoEng tech, I don't think I have any tech you need but I do have a good energy credit stockpile. i checked the settings and i had most of them configured the right way, except that I hadn't disabled DirectDraw. i set that like you did and did a quick test and the video capture looks a lot better! i guess it was getting weirdly scaled somehow before. thanks a bunch! i'm just going to do screenshots from the videos. it'll help to have better source material without weird interpolation, and i can probably live with the presence of an errant mouse cursor. for eco-damage, i _do_ have the right tech to set my social engineering to democratic/green, which is generally a good thing to do for the Gaians (i'll probably revisit that at some future point once i'm no longer benefiting from the +4 growth / creche pop booms). i'd need more tech to bump up fungus production though, and unfortunately a lot of that is locked in the very late game so its not really worth terraforming with that in mind.

played my turn as Hive for MY 2237, here's some stats: Hive (Myself) being top for tech ranking is purely due to a very generous exchange from the Gaians. Believers being top for wealth rankings is interesting, either the rest of us have done some serious spending or their investments have come to fruition!  faction dominance ranking (i just measure the pixels on the chart, some end up equal):
