Again a very likpatous story

Love the divide between "Of course, bioweapons often have these kinds of effects" and "Mental illness isn't real, actually." Except for that last guy, who believes both things.

He probably found her sexually attractive in his unascended body and didn’t want either to be tempted.

Honestly? This isn't a bad theory. Not saying that it's necessarily a valid theory or supported by textual evidence, but as far as a starting guess goes it's pretty legit. Especially since at the time the gospels were written, the exact nature of Jesus (exceptional human? avatar of God? demigod?) wasn't particularly well defined, so the idea of "perfect human falls to temptation" or "celestial being becomes corrupted by human" fits.

At what point are we going to pick a target and volley on that target? So many personal projects that are conflicting with each other and causing everything to be unproductive. At what point are we going to start taking out issues in mass one at a time? We can only blame ourselves for what we are dealing with. So many personal issues, no time to collaborate, and no care beyond our own personal pet issues. We are losing for this reason alone. We are too concerned and selfish about our own pet issues to see the bigger picture...

Anyone?

Conservatives and libertarians have an allergy to leaders that they need to get over.

Libertarians reject leaders entirely and never accomplish anything while conservatives reject effective leaders and follow spineless jellyfish who are usually working for the enemy.

Cast off conservatism and embrace right wing radicalism.

Oh hey, an actual monarchist!

quote:

To: Openurmind
In the "good old days" conservatives were in favor of the monarchy, while liberals (both classical and progressive) were against it. Patrick Deneen has some great books and talks on YouTube where he details how both the focus on liberty of the classical liberals and focus on equality of the progressive liberals have gotten us to where we are.
If you want a root cause it is that we gave up monarchies. If we were led by a monarch in a country that had a state church which was aligned, but not answerable, to the government then we could maintain a moral and humane social, political, and economic order.

We have decided instead to support liberty in hopes that it would not be quashed by the progressives' demand for equality. We are finding that equality trumps liberty at every turn.

Of course the elite oligarchs that run our sham democracy from behind the curtains have all the liberty and freedom from equality that they desire. We are the poor suckers that are doomed to lose our liberties as the dead weight of the grand equalizers slowly squashes us.

The elites were afraid of Trump because he was someone that could have created something like a monarchy. Not in a legal manner, but through shear strength of personality he drew, and could have continued to draw, enough citizens to his cause that he could act as a monarch. But this couldn't be allowed to happen.

When the liberals were weak in the early 60's they were the ones begging for free speech so that they could get their ideas into the public square. Now it is the conservatives begging for free speech. What does that tell you about our current place in the pecking order?

Libertarians call for greater freedom, but that only means more immigrants coming into the country, becoming citizens and voting for equality over liberty. It also means more consumerism eating away at morals, and more free markets moving jobs to other countries and an economy based on making bets and shuffling paper around.

Social conservatives call for a return to God, but in our pluralistic society only a few heed His call, and an increasingly secular government is making it more and more difficult to spread the Good Word.

Neocons tried to energize us by inviting us on a crusade to spread democracy and free markets around the world. We now see how successful that was.

The conservative who made the most sense to me was Russell Kirk. Living a life based on principles rather than some oxymoronic "conservative" ideology. But who can live a life based on principles in a country that now requires us to believe lies and allow ourselves to be led around like children lest we lose our livelihoods?

There is no ONE thing upon which everything else is based. Even if you claim that Jesus is the answer you will get a thousand different opinions on what Jesus's answer is.

If we could go back to a Catholic, Orthodox, or Anglican monarchy then that would work out well. We could disband the unions and reinstitute guilds. We could have a Distributist rather than Socialist or Capitalist economy. We could allow religious dissension, but only in private and never supported in any way by the state.

We are already living under an oligarchy, and most likely have been so since the Civil War. Why not have an open and honest monarchy where we know who our leaders are, who to blame when things go sour, and who to send to the guillotine when things go really bad? The current system is dishonest. The oligarchs don't even have the common decency to out themselves. And the "democratic process" is just another pageant we engage in hoping beyond hope that anything good can come of it.

Yeah, that is tactical thinking and it’s smart. I am not sure there is an umbrella for that though. It has to be something simple; and if possible something that hoists them on their own petard. Turn their sloganeering against them and on their heads. And “never forget”. I don’t want to co-opt the Holocaust survivors slogan but we can’t let them get away with pretending their previous positions never existed. They were adamantly opposed to the border wall, now they are contemplating finishing it. They spend 9 months bickering about the amount of money to spend on Covid relief, only to pass a bill with the same amount of spending that Trump had openly agreed to.

I always found it funny, in an ironic sort of way, how the left suddenly found the 10th Amendment when it came to issues such as sanctuary cities. Before that, they pretended like it never existed.

I know abortion is a very hot button issue for both “sides” (I put it in quotes because imo there are always more than 2 sides). But in a way, the core principle can be turned around. My body, my choice. Why doesn’t this apply to everything? Why can’t I go to to a restaurant to eat? I know the risks of covid. There is a vaccine available to everyone. If you’re vaccinated you should feel confident. If you choose not to be, you accept the risk. Simple. Sure, the covid thing will pass but the same applies to everything. Get government out of our bedrooms, out of our day to day life, out of our wallets. Let freedom ring. You can’t even go to a restaurant, when you are allowed to, without them hanging a sign A B C D etc in the window. It’s crazy. Or drugs. I don’t use drugs or condone recreational drug use but why is vicodin so hard to get? Easier to get heroin, and cheaper too. Or a pack of smokes. I don’t smoke, but why should government tax people’s self-destruction? I could go on.

Trump did hit a nerve I’ll give you that. He did find the right coalition. Possibly in large part over the immigration issue. Even half the Hispanics don’t want unfettered illegal immigration. The migrants end up settling in their neighborhoods because of the language barriers, and then compete for blue collar jobs which suppresses wages. Nobody wants money taken out of their pocket whether its the government or someone who sneaked over the border or someone on one of those special visas. Or Communist Chinese slave labor. $500 for a pair of Nike sneakers made by children for $6 a pair. $1500 for a phone made by Communist laborers for $80 a pop. These are the types of issues that everybody can relate to. And those Chinese corporations are making a fortune while putting their laborers into horrible conditions - some are literally jumping or hanging themselves to death - like the USA had around the turn of the PREVIOUS century. We improved a lot. Unions played a part but now with labor laws and a more conscientious enlightened society working conditions have improved (unless you work in an Amazon warehouse). There is something to what you are saying I am just trying to find a message that can resonate. Good messages should be 7 words or less but here I am writing 500+ words.

Cognitive Dissonance is like "I work for an oil company even though I'm an environmentalist/conservationist because it's the only good paying job in my area even though I'm ideologically opposed to the entire fossil fuel industry" and then after a certain amount of time thinking to yourself "Maybe I'm not actually as environmentalist/conservationist as I thought and maybe I actually like the fossil fuel industry".

Also, do not assume that his chosen strategy 2015-2020 Q4 is his best strategy going forward. I expect him to communicate less often but with broader and less pugilistic messaging, to focus on building his super high potential platform and for a time to aggressively consolidate rather than spend down his political capital. The left is stuck pursuing much egregiously bad policy while Xi, Putin, every constituency in Central America, etc is testing the left’s reckless behaviors. He is letting them dig themselves in ever deeper.

And what goes for Rubio also goes go Pence, who is reviled here but will soon be fully rehabilitated.

There are better people in Florida, but there may be no one better with a route to election. Politics is about the possible, not the ideal. And Trump is, thank God, a pragmatist. You can’t make deals insisting on what won’t happen.

Trump is smart enough to know that numbers are important. Better to have an impure 51% and lose some battles than a pure 30% and lose all of them.

That's going to mean supporting some within the GOP who are less than ideal. Doesn't mean he'll back everyone who has an (R) behind their name. He opposes/primaries the worst of them. But he wants those 51 Senate votes to win at least some fights.

Apparently a lot of Freepers never caught on to how President Trump operated during his entire term in office: HE ENDORSES CANDIDATES HE SEES AS WINNERS.

Go back and look at his track record. The trend is unmistakable. He will endorse a RINO who can win over a MAGA loser ... every time.

That thing that Trump gave to Rubio was not an endorsement. You have to read between the lines.

Sure sounds like an endorsement.

To be fair to the former president* he is definitely in a position to lose a lot if he doesn't play ball with the establishment going forward

It doesn't mean "holding opposing ideas in your head". That's usually a result of Compartmentalized Thinking.

Technically cognitive dissonance is the discomfort you feel from trying to hold opposing ideas. Changing your positions is one way out of it, the other is compartmentalized thinking.

These people are obviously not feeling cognitive dissonance at this point. They've trained themselves out of it.

I can't wait for the despair that will come to these people when Trump's rotting carcass finally stops moving. Reagan's real self faded into his own legend years before his passing because he hid, but Trump will absolutely have a stroke or heart attack minutes after some Nazi Speech and they'll be crying into their cheerios about how their country is doomed without their spraytan fuhrer to lead the REAL CONSEVATIVES and destroy all their imaginary enemies.

It'll happen sometime after:

1. infrastructure week
2. the caravan gets to the border
3. he releases his replacement plan for the ACA
4. his middle class tax cut
5. he releases his taxes
6. he presents evidence of voter fraud and reclaims the white house

any day now!

The whole ‘white supremacy’ thing is nothing more than a commie wet dream.

Studies have been done that show the problem white Americans have is a blindness to racial reality based on ‘fear of being called racist’...

I took one of the test... and even I made mistakes based on acceptance of liberal PC thinking. So, ‘no’ this is crap... the whole concept of large numbers of hidden white supremacists is nuts.

I lived in the Jim Crow South... I was also active in civil rights before the three civil rights workers were killed in Mississippi... I know the difference.
