Labour as a leftist party hasn't had a chance to get into power since the 70s. It was only when they leaned to the right that they got in. Kier just wants to try to repeat the Blair strategy to appeal to people. Not that there's actually a political party in this country that isn't full of a bunch of idiots.

Have the polls actually been right in years? I remember them showing Miliband being 50/50 at one point. Shame the Lib Dems allowed Clegg to utterly wipe them out.

i already wrote half this before, so it's not 1997. There are no third way politicians with the skill, charisma and massacre-free reputation of young blair. We do not live in the same world, with the same conditions and assumptions. Corbyn's run in 2017 won more votes than anything since that cursed day 24 years ago, and over 3m more than miliband and brown. The rebuttal candidate is currently wallowing twenty points behind boris in a dying party he is solely responsible for. The job isn't to repeat people's opinions in the least controversial manner possible, and nobody has ever won an election on that. That is not what Blair did. The job is to tell people how your movement sees the world, and what you plan to do about it. That is something nobody on the labour right is capable of. It's over, it was over the day we invaded Iraq. Please stop trying to take us all down with you like we're phillip's handservants being locked in his crypt

It was only when they leaned to the right that they got in. the left did have a chance to get into power in 2017 if the internal party hadn't thrown the election, though i am skeptical about how effective a left wing labour would have been considering without reselection most of the MPs are stacked up blairite fossils who dogmatically hate leftism and everyone in parliament and the civil service would have blocked any reforms blairite labour won because blair could sign a deal with the devil with murdoch. kier has completely failed to do that so he's doomed to be the radical socialist who protects saville anyway. the lesson of corbyn was just how large a mountain to climb it is to overcome the media. very few journalists and far fewer owners are gonna want to pay more taxes. there was a naivety that we could just overcome that with popular support and spontaneous social media but that was wrong e: once you're in gov you can ignore the media to a large extent but they loving 'ave yer if you're the opposition Communist Thoughts has issued a correction as of 16:50 on Apr 12, 2021 |

the media sucks impossibly but you can’t discuss the 2019 failure of corbynism without discussing the fact that a significant portion of the electorate—maybe even a majority—firmly believes that Britain has an inherent entitlement to the world. it is not proper for britain to pay anybody anything. britain cannot be bound by any promise or obligation. indeed, britain is still an empire, and there is an inherent hierarchy to the world with britain on top. corbyn’s universalism was his greatest weakness. his promise to share britain’s bounty with the undeserving killed him.

There's a Doctor Who episode where people only remember the aliens when they're looking directly at them. Once people look away, they completely forget everything about the aliens - how they look and sound and anything they might have said, and only remember again the next time they look at one. I'm convinced the show's writers got this idea from seeing Keith Starman in action.
