You clearly aren't aware of how the California recall process works. There isn't a primary. There isn't parties. Anyone with a smidgen of friends to sign a document can be added to the ballot. The "debate" last time was fifteen people yelling over each other. A porn star, and a woman who became an LA billboard meme, and literally Gary Coleman were on the ballot. Someone sold a deck of cards featuring them all. EDIT: Oh gee, I forgot to add Gallagher the watermelon-smashing guy, and also people who had names that were identical to famous people but weren't actually famous for anything themselves. Here it is again: She wasn't running it, though. A lot of it was outside the judge's control. The bit the judges needed to fix was the inquiry into ability to pay - the typical inquiry was perfunctory and pro forma. Totally blame her for that. If you read the complaint, the Sheriff's department was running a ton of this outside the control of the courts. They'd get notified someone hadn't paid by the city fees department, then toss people into jail until they paid and not even notify the court. I think she's poo poo for being part of it, but she wasn't "running it". It was a huge team effort to be that poo poo. Maybe you think I'm warped, but I think she should be disqualified from any public office for her role AND I think the lawyer tweeting about it is kinda distorting the facts to make her look even worse. Probably because most people won't read the actual case.

It's certainly disqualifying for a prestige position like this. We can elevate people out there who aren't willing participants in systems that are as obviously corrupt and contemptible as this. It's not a particularly hard standard to meet - even if it means nobody from the Orleans Parish court can be US Attorney.

If the recall succeeds, whoever gets a plurality of votes on the accompanying clown car of replacement candidates instantly becomes governor. So, basically, whatever republican has the best name recognition. She would certainly lose re-election but could sneak in if enough democrats just don't like Newsom and don't quite realize who replaces him if he's recalled. Unclear to me if democrats are having a safety candidate like the lt. gov so that if he is recalled they can retain the governorship.

Which sure is not a majority, but it's similar to what happens all the time in FPTP gubernatorial elections with a spoiler candidate, it wasn't some comedy outcome where he got it with 12% of the vote because everyone fractured behind 100 clown car candidates. Also it seems likely Schwarzenegger would have won with ranked choice or a runoff because the third-place finisher was also a Republican with 13%. Voters pretty much coalesced behind the top three. Even if the opposite happens this time and voters all splinter behind 100 candidates, I am skeptical Jenner would be the one who would come out on top. Right now there's no other celebrities running because "No" is polling at +15, but I'd imagine if that tightens and the recall starts looking like it would succeed more celebrities would jump in who would be better known/liked than her anyway.

College students are seeing a President who is actually getting progressive stuff done and after 4 years of Trump and IIRC 6 years of Republican obstruction under Obama it is an incredible relief to see and as a result you're going to have a generation of voters who are going to be more amendable to support progressives for office. fart simpson posted:it's such a low bar as to be devoid of meaning imo. the last 21 years of presidency have been incredibly awful and i don't think continuing to fail is deserving of additional support I think passing over a trillion dollars in covid relief and stimulus is not continuing to fail, plus the upcoming infrastructure bill which is at least another 1 trillion$ is just success being built on top of success.
