Yeah it’s unfortunate but mock threads tended to end with some members being a bit too enthusiastic at finding something to laugh at.

I love the Star Citizen threads and I’m glad that the people there seem to know the limits.

Case in point, the Chris-chan mock threads eventually led to the creation of Kiwifarm. Which I'm comfortable in saying is worse than Chris-chan ever was.

Didn't Kiwifarm and most of the Chris-chan - for want of a better term - 'fandom' come from 4chan/ED? I know we had threads and lord knows problematic stuff on SA is not some alien concept, but my understanding was that we had relatively little influence in the Chris-chan drama that unfolded.

Kiwifarm was started by the same people who made the CWCiki, which was a goon project.

The great thing about "a rare miss from the Bee" is it's very explicitly not pejorative. "This is no Onion," that's explicitly mean, so it's less funny when people get angry about it.

I got pulled into SA through lurking on friends’ accounts in the wrestling thread. Then I found DnD. Since then, there have been so many mega threads of information that I have went through in order to learn something new or make my life easier.

Now I have four main forums that I go to but I know that I can ask questions in at least one forum if I need it depending on the topic.

"A rare miss from the Bee" works precisely because it's formulaic and jarring. It builds up like a Pavlovian reflex, making the target increasingly annoyed and neurotic the more they see it. Writing down some variation of an actual criticism is easy to filter out, compared to the ever present ring of That One Phrase I Hate.

Of course it is undermined if hundred people are yelling it vs. there being just one upvoted message under every Bee tweet, but that's just what happens when you give every dipshit who feels they are a comedian a platform on social media.

I would cum if the Bee posted that.

Hmm kinda bad right wing media was able to hollow out tens of millions of people's brains:

quote:

Debra Ell, a Republican organizer in Michigan and fervent supporter of former president Donald Trump, said she has good reason to believe the 2020 presidential election was stolen.

“I think I speak for many people in that Trump has never actually been wrong, and so we’ve learned to trust when he says something, that he’s not just going to spew something out there that’s wrong and not verified,” she said

I dunno. I can't stomach it long enough to find out and the website still lists it as a sports talk station. I just know it took about 90 seconds to know it was horrible. Just the usual Limbaugh/Hannity copycat poo poo telling us we simply don't have enough guns, are too lazy and democrats are socialist america destroyers only with a heavy mix of why the Bible supports conservative causes.

All these hosts popping up and the way they try to ape Limbaugh's act....It reminds me a little of how many shock jocks tried to mimic Howard Stern back in the day. A few of them made it into something (Bubba the Love , Mancow) but, like all these robots manufactured on an assembly line, they all keep missing that Rush, like Howard, was GOOD at their job.

Like them or not, Stern and Limbaugh are objectively GOOD at radio, to the point that even people who hate their guts still LISTEN. Hannity has none of that. Or Boortz, Kilmeade, Savage...I doubt they get a lot of hate listeners because they're not very good and understanding what makes for entertaining radio. I'd guess their audience is mostly comprised of the zombies that simply pump WGOP into their veins every day to learn what to hate and how to think about things.

Herman Cain is a good example. Well known name, had the talking points down, ran for president, bonus points for being a minority as a conservative....and just absolutely SUCKED at radio to the point of being loving boring as poo poo. Most of the other imitators just try to emulate the edginess and shock element with absolutely none of the talent.

Todd Herman seems like a decent-ish, totally batshit insane replacement for Rush, since he at least tries to be entertaining and has a decent voice for radio, which is a hell of a lot more than most of the right wing radio types.

The two I've never understood are why the hell Ben Shapiro and Mark Levin have radio shows.

Shapiro sounds like a racist member of Alvin and the Chipmunks, and Mark Levin just repeats his "start off slowly, then get VERY ANGRY ABOUT SOMETHING, then cut to commercial" shtick every 15-20 minutes for three hours, and he's even more impossible to take seriously if you've ever seen Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

Shapiro is astroturfed so hard that he's like 90% crumb rubber. There's someone with big stacks like the Mercers backing him.

Levin legit has no principles and will scream and wet his pants about literally any topic as long as it gets his risible audience angried up. He reminds me a lot of the Radio Genocide announcer from Hotel Rwanda.

Not sure if it's still true but Shapiro spent the most on advertising on any person or company on Facebook for months which was in the six figures per month. There's no way gold and pill ad reads pay that much.

It is bizarre how many of these guys have the worst voices so it makes sense they'd all have to be astroturfed. Levin has a face for radio and a voice for silent pictures.

Hopefully the market for someone like Rush to exist never comes again. People were just really, really racist in the 80s and 90s I guess, but wanted their dogwhistles presented on a silver platter. Now that same audience will apparently eat it raw, straight out of the dogbowl. Not that they have any appealing options left regardless.

Again a very likpatous story
Sean Hannity going back to the classics today, ranting about the FISA courts and Hillary's emails. He also said how it's totally illegal for Rudy Giuliani to be investigated because Trump was his client and they have attorney client privilege. Also some chatting with Bill O'Reilly about how the War on Drugs just hasn't been strong enough or punishing people hard enough.

He's apparently interviewing Caitlyn Jenner on his show tonight and I will give him credit for one small thing, as much as I hate to do it. He used the correct pronouns for her. This is only noteworthy because someone like Ben Shapiro wouldn't have used the correct pronouns.
