KTZ used to be on there, but his bad matchups are SO BAD (and so popular, Li-Ming & Lunara for example) he's super fun when you're playing lineups he's okay against, but just one of his big problem heroes and you're miserable for the whole round. Samuro recently graduated to the list because building him for sustain is so much more fun than building him for crit, you just dance around the enemy team until someone commits, then they die for it, because good luck catching the right Samuro.

Easy-peasy-abusey-fuckwit build:

1: Way of the Wind
4: One With The Wind
7: Phantom Pain (Arguably all three are viable here, I just like Phantom Pain)
10: Bladestorm
13: Kawarimi (Shukuchi is accepted knowledge, but I personally like getting another image for Phantom, and you'll pull off even more escapes)
16: Harsh Winds (E up to someone, Attack, Q, R. Congratulations, you just killed <insert hero here>)
20: Wind Strider if you're playing properly, Dance Of Death if you're clowning on them. Watching four Samuros all Ult at once *panics* people, and is very funny, but the 'correct' choice is Wind Strider.

Murky is the real, actual troll hero. If you go off and gank him, you're gonna miss the objective teamfight. If you go to the objective teamfight, he gets free reign to push your lane and you WILL lose that building.

With other offlane push oriented heroes (the old "specialists" hero class) like Zagara, Azmodan, Nazeebo, etc. you can gank them before a fight and they are dead for a long time. They neither get to push or participate in the objective. It can be worth taking them down when you think an objective is about to come up.

With Murky, you can't kill him and go do the objective. He will be back in lane 8 seconds and spare change later. You either let him push during the map objective, or you spend the entire objective fight/timer killing him or having him escape in the bubble and WHERE THE gently caress IS MURKY NEST, meanwhile you're missing from the teamfight. To kill a hero worth 1/4 XP. And his death timer is negligible.

Do you mean the "unit-inspired" original characters or the "came out of nowhere and have not appeared in previous Blizzard games" original characters?

The former is a consequence of having multiple RTS games without easily mappable or memorable characters to use. The latter could have any number of reasons, but is most likely the result of passionate developers being stuck in what's known to be one of the worst workplaces in the industry and choosing to shoot their shot with an Original Character so they at least have some decent portfolio material for when they inevitably bail/Blizzard finally collapses. Regardless of the reason, said characters from the latter category are incredibly and almost impossibly stupid - both Orphea and Qhira have hugely overloaded kits and lack any kind of distinct personality.

Played Murky in an ARAM where there were no healers offered. Ended up with the least amount of “deaths” on both sides at 5.5, next hero was 7, top was Samuro with 19 deaths because he didn’t take the Bladestorm for all of his clones so I was able to Octograb the right one and he’d be bursted down, over and over again.

Murky is the best.

according to HOTS's player count, a lot of people

for that matter, "fun to play" doesn't necessarily mean "good for the game". both of them have insanely overloaded "do everything" kits that feature healthy doses of mobility, sustain, burst, physical damage, ability damage, crowd control, and waveclear - and most characters of the same type have half of those perks (or even less)

also qhira is literally a token black character with a flat no-detail backstory that was designed to ride the hype of black panther (all of which the developers openly admitted to), and that sucks a whole loving lot!!!

Your first statement seems to indicate you think Orphea and/or Qhira have something to do with HotS’ declining playerbase which I mean, yeah sure. That’s definitely it. There are no other precipitating factors at work, you solved the case.

As for the mechanics complaints, neither of them have a noteworthy win rate.

lol you don't need to get all defensive because i criticized your waifus, stop being a tool

anyway yes there's actually a significant amount of people who bailed on HOTS because of qhira's inclusion. some were mad about the blatant token minority pandering, some couldn't handle a second original character being added to their game about established characters, and some were merely racist. it didn't help that qhira's launch was an absolute disaster for a lot of reasons, not least of which being backlash over the developers stating that orphea was going to be the only original character added to HOTS and she was the exception because she had story relevance. obviously the inclusion of orphea and qhira is not the whole reason that HOTS has been in such a sharp decline for so long, but the implementation of two shallow nobodies with zero history in a game that's supposed to be about celebrating beloved characters definitely had an impact on player retention and/or player motivation.

also, while citing winrates is cute, it's completely unrelated to my point: winrate is determined by balance, not design. a character could have a perfect winrate while possessing an utterly dogshit design - nova or butcher, for example. design drives the gameplay experience and what "feels fair", and that's not something you can really get from a statistic.

you can definitely get it from player feedback, though - and there's been a lot of that on this particular subject.

excuse you, i'm well aware of my tool status. as a matter of fact, i've been thinking of upgrading to implement.

i have no hard numbers because the people i'd bother for hard numbers no longer work at blizzard. the best i have for you are secondary metrics, such as the totally disastrous score on qhira's trailer, the sharp increase in posts complaining about qhira on the HOTS reddit with her release date and the harsh downturn of comments per day afterwards, and the general listlessness of the official forums (which i have no statistics for, but once upon a time i was very active there and it's practically a graveyard compared to what it used to be).

HOTS was obviously in decline before this point, but if you look at everything else, it's pretty obvious that qhira was the last straw for a good chunk of people. how many specifically? i'unno, despite my best efforts i never actually worked at blizzard. but then again, blizzard is having problems in general:

feel like aba's ultimate evolution level 20 talent doesn't get nearly enough appreciation. i suspect a lot of people look at it and either don't notice the "refreshes every 5 seconds" part or see it's based on % max hp and think "this is only good on high health heroes"

turns out if you give a squishy high damage hero 35% more hp it helps them a lot, almost like those heroes are balanced around being easy to kill and you have removed that balancing factor from them. i've been taking it over doublehat if i notice my team is having survivability issues or if we tend to fall apart on the engage after i clone (so, most of the time now lol). works wonders if the clone target is half decent at the game, basically no matter what hero they are. also great for saving people from being picked when the normal hat just isn't quite cutting it.

Good morning Heroes!

There is some new content coming right around the corner and I wanted to take a quick minute to share something that will be entering the Nexus shortly - Loan Talents. Here is a sneak-peek at one of them:

Divine Fortress

Basic Attacks against enemy Heroes grant 15 Physical Armor for 3 seconds, stacking up to 60.

Loan: Johanna gains 20% maximum Health. Lose 5% of this bonus every time she dies.

The idea behind these was to give fairly substantial up-front power spikes that can either help carry you to victory or potentially lose potency over time - think of them as sort of 'reverse-quests'. Play smart and they can be extremely powerful over the course of the game, but know that by choosing it, you also put a pretty substantial target over your head... cough, Convection, cough.

Anyways, the team is excited to see what you think about these and get them into your hands as soon as possible! Have a wonderful day and we will see you in the Nexus! <3

I don't think it's dangerous or anything. You have versions of this already with the Diablo soulstone and it isn't that big a deal (and soulstone's effect is more dramatic than these will be). It's just an odd thing to come in all excited about at this point in the game's lifecycle.

My guess is most of these will be defensive in nature because offensive ones have more potential to hit weird breakpoints. Like you're not going to see one that increases Li Ming's damage by 20%.

Uhhh... It's the opposite of Diablo's soulstone, a thing that builds in power over time, and also can be renewed if lost.

this was my first thought, but then I remembered the "free action token arena trinket" thing that was what? 300? 360 seconds? cooldown? think of how many times a player used it ZERO times during a match

this will be a weird buff to certain heroes in certain matches, it might be relevant to a tournament match somewhere sometime, but most players will ignore it until the enemy team uses it to win and then they will be

VERY MAD

YOU hosed UP! YOU LET THE ENEMY TEAM DO SOMETHING COOL (THAT I COULD ALSO HAVE DONE BUT I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT IT SO ITS NOT FAIR) REMOVE THIS BUFF TO [hero I played against] IT'S STUPID THAT ANYONE COULD HAVE THAT MUCH POWER IN THE MAKEUP OF THE MATCH

Just because Liquor's dead, doesn't mean you can just roll this bitch all over town with "The Freedoms."

quote:

(New) Execute Orders [Passive]
Reduce your Death Timer to 30 seconds. Upon death, cast Hyperion towards the nearest enemy Hero.

A lot of the changes are interesting but this particular talent at 20 sounds weird. Hyperion is one of the more "just walk away from it" ults in the game but I guess it would add some chaos to a team fight if an enemy got in the back line and picked off Raynor first. Was thinking you could suicide into towers over and over and siege them down like a bad Leoric but I guess it wouldn't trigger if there's no hero nearby.

Fishing hook becoming (sort of) baseline for Stitches is great, I always picked it anyway. Besides the hook Stitches always felt kind of boring to play and ultimately not very good, the vile gas stuff should make him a lot more interesting.

Valla's hungering arrow build was always my favorite and it looks like the damage quest stacks infinitely now. Monster Hunter moved to level 7 and having the mana cost reduction removed makes it a lot less appealing I think even if you're using a hungering arrow build. Frost shot was already my go-to at 16 and having it at level 7 with added bonus to hungering arrow damage seems like a no-brainer. Farflight quiver was already amazing at 20 and seems even better now.

Interesting reworks all around, Valla looks like she'll be an absolute monster after the changes.
