Can't get no luck.

As disheartening as it is to see Labour reduced to this from what it could have been under Corbyn, at least today we're getting some confirmation that we're not all collectively in some insane echo chamber huffing our own farts, and that we can actually see things at least somewhat as they really are.

If Keith had hosed the Tories and made huge gains I'd be looking at myself pretty hard in the mirror, realising that I'd got it badly wrong. Of course we can count on precisely zero reflection from all the media cretins who've been telling us that we need a forensic adult like Keith and that's what'll really win voters. I've seen journos and quotes from senior Labour people, and of course Keith himself all essentially saying "We haven't gone hard enough! We need to double down!" rather than "Clearly the changes we've made are in the wrong direction" which any sane person would conclude.

Yep. The Labour Right need to be roundly crushed underfoot by the sandalled feet of the colossus .. erm... so Labour can be reborn.

My ward went from Labour to Conservative, largely courtesy of a solid Lab->Green swing rather than any real increase in the Conservative vote. Which is nice in as much as it delivers a kick to Starmer et al. The ward over was actually a Labour gain, because the Conservative candidate was revealed to previously be an undercover policeman for the Met with a string of allegations and upheld complains about grooming/sexually abusing female activists which - fortunately, given how things sometimes shake out in 2020s British politics - the voters were not a fan of.

SNP hold Moray, which is the seat Douglas Ross represented as an MP (& still does, I don't think he's stepped down) & before that as an atrocious bigot of a councillor. Up from 1.5% from 2016 to 48.6%.

This is both funny because Ross is from Moray & also I care because it's my next door constituency.

The Tories won Dumfriesshire, so Joan MacAlpine doesn't get in, which is a net positive because she is loving awful. Hope to god she doesn't get in on the list with the Nats picking up 2 seats in the region but I hard to call.

Also my poo poo MSP Fergus Ewing has defended his seat, not surprising, & the nearest party was the Tories but he still loving sucks

what keeps happening to my clothes
a nice little side story, prominent SNP TERF Joan McAlpine is almost certainly gone now - she's lost her constituency and thanks to the SNP gaining two seats in that region she likely won't get in on the list, barring a huge increase in the list vote. who will possibly pose reasonable questions about biological sex now

The Senedd constituency next to mine is in, increased the Labour majority by a few thousand, looks to have taken votes directly from the Tories. Legit surprised, it's been a marginal for years, CLP is kinda left & largely relies on nearby (leftier) constituencies for campaigning, which definitely wasn't happening this year. Wondering if it's pro-Drakeford votes, since all the olds got their vaccines early

Yeah Im originally from Gower and was worried it would flip to the Tories again but Labour seen to have held it with an increased majority. Seems like Drakeford has done a pretty good job at keeping Welsh Labour's fortunes separate from the rest of the party.

Fairly savage from Owen:

Tony Benn once said there were two types of politician: a signpost and a weathervane. It would be unfair to describe Keir Starmer as the latter, because weathervanes are at least known to point, however fleetingly, in a direction.

Early results from Wales suggest Labour have done better here than elsewhere. The Caerphilly MS was on the radio making it clear he thought this was Mark Drakeford's win specifically. I think a "Welsh Labour under Drakeford does OK, English Labour under Starmer does terribly" result could make for a pretty strong narrative. Have to see how the rest of the results look though.
