This is the inevitable consequence of the destruction of political activist communities where people are actually known and trusted and then move into the spotlight in a bottom up fashion, rather than the elite politics we currently have where someone happens to fortunately end up in the right place or gives a good interview at a particular moment and then becomes the new hotness to a bunch of people who have little to no understanding of and absolutely no control over this persons politics. This applies to Corbyn as well, except he happened to believe in being guided by the existing party structures too much.
