Presumably not as difficult as going the other way because you don't need a flue which have all sorts of annoying rules about them now if the boiler isn't venting straight through the wall. Apparently people are "dying" of "carbon monoxide" because "large exhaust runs not accessible for inspection are unsafe" or whatever elf and safety gone mad it is. Guavanaut posted:Electric boilers cost 4x more to run than even an old 70% efficient gas boiler, and are usually slower to heat water for peak use. Even a small compact gas boiler will think nothing of putting out 24kW, which would be enough to blow the main house fuse in a simple electric boiler. Yeah, this was my concern. My initial research always came up with it being all upsides, but also you’ve got electric radiators or heat pumps or whatever. Suffice to say, I don’t want to rip out my entire central heating system.

Also, flats (incl mine) will be hosed - the whole communal heating thing is well out of vogue & no garden for a heat pump. I already had to fork out 3k for a combi because the old floor mounted boilers are no longer accepted

Grants capped at 4000 for air source heat pumps - the Clean Heat Grant - start in March 2022. They replace the broader and far more lucrative Renewable Heat Incentive, which ends March 2022. It was originally to end in March this year but they've extended it another year.

Wasn't there a thing a while ago where they wanted heat pumps controlled by a municipal authority? So now your home can be just like every school and workplace, i.e. freezing cold or overheating because it's all controlled from a cupboard in cramlington.

If it's like the previous green grant it will be botched so badly every installer will back out as they just end up losing money. By 2001 hard left Labour voters had already realised that Blair was just another Tory and the only choice we had was the colour of the rosettes, so they began to stay home.

New Labour strategy was pretty clear - rebuild their voter base by appealing to the aspirational working and lower-middle class in London, rely on the non-London working class and ethnic minorities (primarily concentrated in the cities of course) having nowhere else to go. Brexit only accelerated the attrition of those traditional heartlands - had nothing been changed they'd have gone blue just through sheer apathy within a decade or so anyway.

ANYTHING YOU SOW posted:https://twitter.com/HugoGye/status/1400079678635876352?s=19 I'm slightly sceptical of the 100% for 75-79 and I've gone looking (quickly) at the Public Health England website which is crap compared to the Wales one and it doesn't break it down into percentages just raw figures giving it as 2,000,706 for that age range and first jabs compared to the 75-79 estimated population (in 2019) of 1,940,686. So yeah I'm a little eh on whether I trust that they've actually managed to track down and get every single 75-79 year old or whether somebodies mucked up a reporting figure somewhere. For comparison, let's look at the (much better overall) Wales figures:

stev posted:I feel like there has to be a huge number of over 70s who just have no contact with anyone and no way of getting to a vaccination centre even if they wanted to. Not just over 70s! If you don't have family or friends close by, live in the styx, don't drive, and the centres or even GP surgeries are not within reasonable walking distance, and public transport doesn't go near (and eg round here, public transport which was crappy anyway has been slashed to pieces even more), then it could be difficult. Fortunately, my sister is driving me tomorrow for my 2nd jab else I would have to fork out £25 for a taxi* which is a special deal (and in fact may not still be on offer!) - normally it would be almost £100 return by taxi and impossible to get there and back in a day. Not only that, but the only GP surgery doing it locally is ALSO 10 miles away and going by bus makes it literally a whole day out because the bus only goes every 2 or 4 hours depending if it is a school day and the last bus back is about 5pm. If you're lucky. Some last buses are around 330pm. *I could pay that if I had to, but there are a lot of people that would find that very difficult. Ed: and also, there aren't that many taxis and you can wait 3 hours or more to be able to get one. Jaeluni Asjil fucked around with this message at 16:19 on Jun 2, 2021 |
