tbf, oregon just passed an onerous tax on tobacco and a minimum price for alcohol that almost doubles the price of bottom shelf liquor (while leaving the cost of anything that passes through my bourgeoisie hippy dilettante lips unchanged) . hating the poor, but in an especially patronizing way is kinda the prevalent attitude.

like, the mindset that thinks someone on the margins starving because all the substances that give them a brief reprise from their misery, subsequently also necessary for their survival, have doubled in price is some sort of moral good is real perverse, but it's also real common. libs gonna lib

I got my first free Epoch Times last week. The two cover stories were about vaccine skepticism and the need to do something about organ trafficking.

The Dutch system is thoroughly idiotic and it's only because it's become a symbol of our national self-delusion of being progressive and tolerant (we are neither) that it hasn't been wholly abolished and the government gone all-in on war on drugs.

Like for real, government here has been ramping up into a war on drugs using 80s US Republican talking points and pointing to the US as an example to follow while the US has been legalizing weed using arguments that the war on drugs is an obvious and total failure.

Anyway, according to ratemyprofessor, Dr. Furr has a bad habit of leaving class for 10-15 minutes at a time, almost every class, and telling the students to discuss things amongst themselves. Sounds kind of cool but people complain about it.

I remember liking this critique of Blood Lies by Roger Keeran (himself a marxist-leninist) but I haven't read it in a couple years so I guess it might not be as good as I remember. I still intend to read Keeran's book Socialism Betrayed about the overthrow of the USSR, it's meant to be a very good analysis and account of the reasons for decline and the forces at work in capitalist restoration

Stalin’s primary crime in the western world was defeating Hitler and the nazis, the latter whom were heavily tied up in American & western finance/banks. The second heinous crime he committed was giving no quarter whatsoever to fascists and reactionaries. The third crime was the creation of the Eastern Bloc and the acquisition of a nuclear weapon.

hippy drugs of choice are psychedelics and weed which are extra powermoderator dumb things to be down on. like, "what's the biggest obstacle in the way of creating and maintaining a socialist state? drugs that radically increase people's sense of empathy!"

that's not what psychedelics do tho - the 'mystical' states they generate are radically subjectivist and antisocial, and when pursued as an end in themselves result in a kind of infantile narcissism that is utterly incapable of the kind of intersubjective commitment necessary for effective political activity.
