This is so goddamn irritating. My own grandpa was born in 1898. He literally fought in my country's fight for independence. After that point, he was a foundational figure in the rules of how our country ought to be. He shaped the army because he was a trainer for irish officers for about 50 years. And he was a profoundly civilized, kindly, sensible man. I only knew him when he was in his 70s/80s and he was a lovely, loveable man. He never expected to meet his grandchildren, and yeah, he did, all of them. He died in his 90's and he was an excellent man, and very much loved.

I know it's been mentioned here before but a lot of right-wingers aren't even flying the actual American flag anymore. It's some variant of "TRUMP" and blue lives matter, in that order and the in-your-face fascists (usually the younger chuds) are putting up American flag Punisher skulls. My wife and I took our son to the local lake on Memorial Day to splash around for a bit. We go to an area that's popular with weekend campers. After we were there a while another family pulled in beside us and set up camp. When they were done, the guy proudly raised a Trump flag onto his trailer camper that features an idealized/muscular Trump holding a machine gun equipped with an RPG. No actual American flag anywhere. The notion that he was flying the flag of a guy who notoriously dodged the Vietnam draft was being flown in lieu of an American flag on the very day we honor our dead soldiers didn't ever occur to this guy. And this isn't any isolated incident. Deep in chudville here it's becoming the norm. The guy up the street from us flies an upside-down flag because he thinks Biden is an illegitimate usurper. This. Where do you live if you don't mind me asking? All this flag poo poo is just taking on a more aggressive stance. And the ole red, white n' blue just aint cuttin it no more. I work for a sign and graphics company and we get a ton of flag wraps and poo poo. They should just pre-install that poo poo at the factory but everyone needs a different stripe/color combination. Also, pretty sure it's not just in my head but these motherfuckers are DRIVING way more aggressively - and just being aggressive in general - but you can REALLY sense it on the roads. No idea what it is about this one born rich draft dodger celebrity failed businessman adulterer thrice divorced porn star fucker from NYC that captured their hearts and minds but all I can figure is that he's as stupid as they are and acts exactly how they would if they were rich or became president.

I live in deep red rural Missouri and the Trump flags were ubiquitous up to the election. Now most have been replaced by Gadsdens and blue lines, but you will see at least a few of those in any normal neighborhood here. Every block had one house with multiple Maga 2020 flags like papering the front of the house. Plenty of rebel flags too. Last summer I did see the buff machine gun trump flag not on my block but in my neighborhood, flying from an actual real flagpole in the yard like 15 feet high.

There's a house here that flies one of those lovely Blue Lives Matter single blue stripe flag instead of an American flag and I hate it so much, I honestly hate it even more than all the blue Trump 2020 flags and the occasional Trump Train flag that I see everywhere. I haven't seen the buff Trump with gun flag fortunately, though now that I've said that I'll probably see it in the next couple of days.Larryb posted:Hell, the whole Invention Exchange thing from early MST3K was based on Joel's old standup act if I recall correctly (he was more of a prop comic). I guess fascists do that. uugggghhhh this literally hits too close to home as my parents just moved out of a little "development" near Central and the Carefree Highway. They fell in love with the view when they toured a model home about 15 years ago and then the place chudded the gently caress out (higher than the normal concentration in Phoenix) with the added benefit of being "developed" by the shadiest bunch of shell-game/nesting-doll/constantly busting and reincorporating contractors I've ever seen. They had to do so much work on their house over the 15 years they had it, just fixing dumb poo poo forever (ducts not hooked up to anything, AC didn't work right for 10 years, pool was hosed forever, etc.) and the inspector when they went to sell found another $30k they had to do (the deck was in danger of falling off, plus other stuff). No chance finding anyone who did any of the original work as they all went out of business about 2 years after they bought the place (but the individuals ran about 3 other companies in the meantime until they lost track of them). It was unincorporated land so they had to pay for the roads to be put in themselves, but everyone had their own contract with the waste collectors so the garbage trucks drove through the neighbourhood every single day which tore the hell out of the roads. They were all on wells which dried up every 5 years or so but nobody wanted to pony up as a group to build the pipe to get municipal water because they're all house-flipping psychos who just want to stick someone else with the bill. Then some genius bought this huge strip of land between the freeway and all the houses and cleared all the brush off of it so there's a ton more road noise now as there's nothing between them. This guy's big plan was to sell the lot to Best Buy or Target or another big retail store but they were completely uninterested when they learner there were no power or water connections (because it was unincorporated). Just a little microcosm of libertarian dickheads loving each other over in a little corner of the desert. Sorry for the rant, I hope you're a little farther out and know your neighbors a bit better than my folks did.

While I was watching dumb video game youtube videos the site decided that in the middle of watching people play Mario I should be given a 57 minute "ad" which was a show called "Right On" with Stephen Kent. I watched about five minutes of it (five minutes more than I should have, I know) purely because I was curious what this dork's angle was and it was so bizarre. He I guess claimed to be a libertarian and "free thinker" and all that jazz but the weird part was him claiming that he didn't understand other libertarians and Republicans because all of them are pro-immigration and soft on crime, and that Republican politicians are "asleep at the wheel of government" by holding those positions. I mean, I get we make the "Democrats are right wing" jabs in this forum and if he was just using the term "right wingers" then I'd make them to, but he specifically said it was mainstream Republicans and libertarians that were pro-immigration/not tough on crime. He then introduced a guest, an Indian man who's name I can't remember (started with an S) who he claimed was fairly prominent in right wing circles, they talked a bit about his life and how he became right wing and he mentioned that for grades 9 through 12 his parents moved back to India and so he spent those years there as a teenager, where he said that "the rampant problems caused by immigration and the resulting crime is what took me down the road to nationalism" and that's the part where I skipped the ad.
