Thank you for all that! I think that was what made me nervous. The price difference was much higher than I expected, so I figured I had it wrong.

Also, it's not communicated well (what? STO not telling you something?!), but there's a 10m refined dil cap per character. Anything over 10m dil is lost. You're probably safer keeping it as zen for the moment.

Wait, so is the dil/zen exchange not technically broken but just no one, at all, is selling zen? Good Lord. Feeling glad I splurged on the sale yesterday.

People are, but the entire backlog's been bought up and whatever trivial amount is being added is just instantly snapped up by the billion different buy orders. Healthy economy!

Right now, it would take 272,000 zen to get through them all. At this point, I think it's self-sustaining. Even people who didn't feel the need for zen right now are throwing their offers on the pile just to get a spot in the line, which of course makes the whole thing worse. Of course, Kael has a great idea that would piss off every single player and not actually solve the problem. https://twitter.com/AmbassadorKael/status/1408522173988282370

The worst part will be getting t6 mastery on all the JH ships. I got the starter pack cause I had some zen sitting around and it was 1300 for a t6 ship, and getting that t6 took way longer than a normal mastery.

I thought I would pop in and say thanks. I'm casually enjoying the game again. I'm only level 8 right now, but with the Arbiter class ship, space combat is no longer an issue, and ground combat hasn't been a problem yet. I enjoyed a couple missions last night that really feel they put you in the captains chair and I like it.

Admittedly a lot of it is having a ton of ships, enough that you can hide anything with a rarity lower than UR. It's pretty easy to 100% admiralty missions when you can throw 3 UR or epic ships at each one. Ah, well than. I was wondering, when it comes to sci builds, is there some skill spread that leaves you good enough for both space wizard and more standard beam builds? The good space wizarding stuff is expensive and stacking it on my main character would probably be better.

Just remember when you're switching from a beam ship to a sci ship (and vice versa) to make sure you also switch your active spec and doffs. I can't remember if loadouts save those or not but loadouts are buggy anyway, so it's always best to check.

g0del posted:The recommended skill setup for a beam ship and a space wizard ship are fairly similar, since stacking tac skills to unlock the tac ultimate is recommended in both cases. If I were trying to marry them, I'd probably take the build from here: https://www.sto-league.com/science-ships-in-the-current-century/ g0del's advice is probably the best way to go, but I'll counter with some bad optional advice instead: It's also possible (and maybe more budget friendly?) to go down hard in the science tree for the capstone ability while doing some tac and engineering. As a tactical-captain-science-ship guy I've never really cared for the tactical capstone ability, but man does the science ability feel awesome since it turns everything for the next few seconds into criticals. In my head, I know that Focused Frenzy is the superior DPS skill but my heart tells me that the multi-target nature of Probability Manipulation is way the heck more fun and turns both my escorty beams into ginsu knives and spacewizarding anomalies into garbage disposals. I did have a quick look at my build while typing this out and it's 10 Eng / 25 Sci / 11 Tac. If anything I'd probably drop some engineering points and move them over to tac, and swap one science point that way as well. But it works. Point being don't worry to much about being optimal, just good enough will do.

Science skills also work a little funny with crth, at least anomalies. They roll for crit or not when they're first created, and not again for the rest of their duration. So if, say, your grav well rolls a crit, then it will crit every single time it ticks damage. Similarly if it doesn't roll a crit, none of the damage it does for the life of the anomaly will be a crit. So ideally, you get your base crth to 50% or higher (should be easy for a romulan with a lot of endeavor points in crth, might be a little more work for a non-rom on a newer account), get your EPG to 250 or above, then slot the Particle Manipulator trait for 100% crth. Then all your anomalies will be crits without using a capstone skill. 0x0hShit posted:Point being don't worry to much about being optimal, just good enough will do.

Funny how with the dil exchange completely crashed out in STO, I... have no reason or motivation to log into STO nightly anymore. I realized that my main motivation to play the game, besides the LP, was that I just like collecting ships and grinding out dilzen towards that end. I have chosen to take this as an unexpected win.

The quick fix to all of this would be to make lootbox keys purchasable with dill during the phoenix events. I have no idea what they thought they were doing making phoenix boxes purchasable full time. Do some math to figure out what the rough zen:EC rate is based on lootbox keys on the exchange, and figure out about where you want the dill values to stabilize. Set the phoenix event price a little below that to provide extra downward pressure, and you've got a release valve you can hit whenever poo poo starts getting dumb. There are probably much better, long term ways to siphon dill out of the economy, but that one would be pretty easy to implement. The real problem is that they won't do that because it would affect lootbox sales for zen, which would cost them money.

Buying lobi directly with dil would at the least get me to spend a ton of dil. Theres lots of cosmetics or fun things that aren't worth getting for scant few you get via events, since a. I dont open lockboxes and b. The rate from boxes is trash

Hunter Noventa posted:They'd probably have to raise the price of Lobi ships, but that still wouldn't be the worst idea. If they price lobi directly for dil at higher than 10,000 per lobi, no one who's done the math will buy it. If they set it lower, it will hopefully drive the dilex down. But there's a limit there, too. If they set the price at 5,000 dil per lobi, it's worth it to buy lobi directly until the dilex gets down around 250, at which point it makes more sense to buy keys again. So they could decide on a dilex rate that they're happy with, and set the lobi price to try to keep it around that rate. But that would require doing some math, and I honestly don't know if cryptic has that in them anymore. After all, they're making vague statements about how they want to fix it, but then just announced a flash promo box sale, which will do the opposite of fixing it.

One of the reasons the Phoenix boxes aren't as desirable as they could be is the horrendous drop rates for epics. It's been requested a long time but due to this situation it's time they finally let people 'trade up' a certain number of lower tier tokens to upgrade to a higher tier token. This would create a fixed path to the epic, even if a person never got lucky and scored one along the way. This would also create more interest in the boxes and make them more of a dil sink.
