Since people enjoyed my M4 story, my relatively new X3M is also now at the dealer since about 25% of the time it won't shift from R->D or from D->P without turning the car on and off. It's been at the dealership for two weeks and BMW USA has been involved and apparently has decided there's nothing wrong with it and it should be returned to me. The dealership knows something is wrong and is now asking for a few more days to see what they can do. Fun times with M cars!

God drat cooling system strikes again, I'm about 99% sure the waterpump went out on my way home from work this afternoon. Got both temperature warnings in short succession. I turned the heat all the way to max and it actually went down enough I guess to limp off the highway but not enough to make it home without it cycling between no power and all of a sudden operating normally (I guess as the impeller spins for a few seconds?) every 30 seconds. Got into the secret menu and engine temp was pegged at 120C, comes down very slowly with the engine off, and shoots right back up even at idle. It's right at 60k miles too, so I should have known something like this is gonna happen
